SA Rocks the Vuvuzela Moment

Posted by zookuki in world cup , vuvuzela moment , south africa , Soccer , football , FIFA , 2010

Goosebumps... as I walked outside

Traffic obscured by brightly coloured supporters, flags and an omipresent blast of vuvuzelas.  It was just amazing to experience the GEES in South Africa.  Our colourful nation is such a wonderful place... our people are the best.

I'm still struggling to get the hang of my vuvuzela (so far it's all spit and farting noises), but I will persist - SA ROCKS!

Digital TV Standards delayed again

Posted by sgb in VHS , Standards , south africa , Digital TV , BluRay , Betamax

4 years after announcing plans to introduce digital TV (hoped for by the 2010 World Cup) the South African government has got embroiled in an age old arguement - what standard to use. The introduction has therefore been delayed by 'a couple of months' to the fury of many of the desk-top box providers.

Die Suidlanders: It's the 1980's all over again

I don't usually watch Special Assignment, but the ads got my attention. A documentary about the Suidlanders, a right wing religious group of Afrikaners. I thought, Hey, I've just written a nice heartfelt blog about why I love South Africa and why I dislike the not-so-proudly South Africans, so why not watch Special Assignment and let my blood pressure rise a little? Nothing like some good old fashioned Afrikaner racists to push my temper levels to the limit.

Poisonous snakes to welcome teams to South Africa

Posted by barrmar in wild-life , visiting teams , UK tabloids , south africa , snakes

Visiting soccer teams are in danger from highly poisonous snakes according to UK tabloid The Sun. The strange thing is that in my last 30 years in South Africa, my encounters with snakes have been few and far between.

World Cup fever breaking out

Posted by barrmar in world cup , stadiums , south africa , Flags

It is happening in the work place. Soccer Friday sees many employees sporting the yellow soccer shirts. It is happening in the streets. More and more cars are adorned with mirror socks and flags. Most show the SA flag. A few others have flags of other countries - Italy, England ...

Wont all the dumb South Africans just go away? (That includes The Nack and Language Girl...)

People amaze me. I can sit in public places for hours and just observe those around me. The way they walk, talk, dress. I like to go to the any place that serves a decent coffee and just... watch. And listen. To those coming and going, to the converstations all around me.

We like animals, especially puppies and kittens, so going to a pet shop usually pops up in our weekend activities. Pet shops are mostly located at malls, so we spend some time over the weekends just strolling around any one of the many malls in the vicinity. Lots and lots of people in malls.

DO you know what makes me proud, especially these past couple of weeks?

Help our Economy by Doing this simple thing

Posted by thenack in south africa , petrol , opec , money

I actually had this idea a few years ago, and I received this trhough e-mail today. I think if we seriously consider doing this, we will make a massive difference. Now all we need to do is get the taxis to participate:

This is about petrol prices and an invitation to join the resistance. By the end of this month petrol prices are set to soar even higher.

If we want the petrol price to come down, we all need to take some intelligent, united action.
Last year there was a "don't buy petrol day"-but the oil companies just laughed at that because they knew that we would "hurt" ourselves by refusing to buy petrol.
It was more of an inconvenience to us than a problem to them.

Sokker Wereldbeker Fotos en Inligting

Posted by thenack in wereldbeker , thenack , south africa , photos , info , football , FIFA

HEre are some awesome pics of the world cup stadiums. I have seen the one in Nelspruit, GIANT GIRAFFES serve as pillars, amazing. 1 Hours drive from the Kruger Park, watch your football and go see some animals. I also saw the one in Durban from a boat at see at 4 in the morning, it is AMAZING!. It dwarves Kingspark totally, you should go see it even if you don't have tickets for a game.

What many people don't know yet is that most of the fans will be watching the games at "fanparks" Giant screens will be showing the games so that people can watch it together. This should also be a lot of fun as "fanparks" will have beer. Nuf are the locations.

Most of the fanparks are located around the top tourist destinations, mainly Western Cape and Gauteng, but I think one of the coolest holidays ever will be visiting all of the fanparks, you will have the best time ever. They are located in the best spots!

If you know somebody from the oversees, pass this along
