Human/Chimp similarities have surprising results!Posted by thenack in thenack , origins , humans vs chimps , genetics , evolution , DNA |
You have heard that old story, Humans and chimps have 98% of the same DNA. Not just a story, up until recently evolutionary scientists said this was a "fact" that supported evolution. Tuns out, it's not that simple.

...24 November, 1859 Charles Darwin published "On the Origin of Species", and our view and understanding of Biology was changed. The full title for the first edition (which sold out), was "On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life"
It is amazing to read the first edition now, as one soon realises what a genius Darwin was, and how far ahead of his time he was. Darwin used information that he had gathered on the HMS Beagle, during its long voyage of exploration in the 1830's. One has to remember that he managed to put together all the facts without a knowledge of genes, or even a fossil record. All that came later, which reinforced his work.

I often find that your run of the mill atheists really haven't thought things through. I suppose that is true of most people, but I thought I would explain in simple terms, what being a modern atheist really means. So we start out by defining and atheist as somebody who denighs the existance of a god.
This prompted the question, well, if god didn't do it, where did the universe come from, I mean why does the universe exist? The best and most up to date answer from world leading atheists is: nothing exploded and created everything. Yip, you see how they replaced God created everything with nothing created everything? Aparently according to atheists it is easier and cleverer to believe nothing did it than God.
Moving on to how life was created. Atheists, and this is really what they believe, the smartest and bestests like richard Dawkins believes that after nothing exploded and created everything (all dead matter that is), the rocks and water that made up earth got lucky and ended up in a nice, well freakishly perfect spot. It started to rain on the rocks, and the rocks disolved, and basically ... Life. Something about lightning and rocks and rain. Thats is serioulsy as far as their "scientific"argument goes.
Thus far we have nothing exploding, making rocks, rocks getting lucky, rocks getting wet, rock sludge getting .......(fit favourite fantasy) magically transformed in living rocks. WOW. now that is what I call science!
Then the living rock chemicals were lucky again. It turns out there was a boy and a girl chemical-gogga, and there were other dumb chemical-goggas to eat, (they also got lucky but a little less), and they had gogga babies because they were lcuky enough to know how to do stuff and what to do. Then after a billion years and a lot of lucky, the rock-soup-goggas had somehow mutated into humans. The end.
I do not have enough faith to believe that nothing exploded, created everything, that got lucky, got shocked, got somehow alive with food and sex and got to be einstein in a gazillion years.
I believe in the beginning was God, and then we can build a propper story with less lightning and luck and nothing becoming everything and such nonsens.

Those Racist TendenciesPosted by thenack in thenack , south afrika , racism , racial , race , love , evolution , darwin , charles darwin , black white coloured watookal , apartheid |

In this multicultural country of ours, it has become a swearword to be a racist, well not if you're black, black people can't be racist. This sentence kind of illustrates my point.....when are you actually being a racist, what does the word racist mean, does the standard definition apply to South Africa?
In the Dictionary, it is given as:
1. The belief that race accounts for differences in human character or ability and that a particular race is superior to others.

Why Evolution makes sense to mePosted by Dissol in evolution , Attenborough |
I suddenly realised last night, while watching TV, why Evolution makes such perfect sense to me.
I happened to be watching Parkinson - on of his final programmes. I was really delighted that he had Billy Connelly on, who never fails to make me laugh, no matter how I am feeling, and he did it again last night. But it was not Billy (who is a great observer of the human race). His next guest was Michael Caine; also a very funny man. But it was his final guest, David Attenborough, who, I would imagine, is responsible for many millions of people of my generation, who grew up watching his simply stunning Natural History programmes, to accept Evolution as an obvious fact. I still enjoy watching him (he is now in his 80's), as he is clearly sharing his fascination with you on a very personal level. A quite remarkable man, who has had a remarkable career, and, I would suggest has had a huge effect on many people, lucky enough to be able to watch his programmes. He does not even mention religion in his programmes. I am sure he feels that religion has nothing to do with it all. He is talking about, and explaining, the wonderful world of Nature, and how each part fits in, how it has evolved, where it is at risk. But I did find a great quote from him talking about Evolution:
"My response is that when Creationists talk about God creating every individual species as a separate act, they always instance hummingbirds, or orchids, sunflowers and beautiful things. But I tend to think instead of a parasitic worm that is boring through the eye of a boy sitting on the bank of a river in West Africa, [a worm] that's going to make him blind. And [I ask them], 'Are you telling me that the God you believe in, who you also say is an all-merciful God, who cares for each one of us individually, are you saying that God created this worm that can live in no other way than in an innocent child's eyeball? Because that doesn't seem to me to coincide with a God who's full of mercy'"

Black People are Monkeys? Darwins racist LegacyPosted by thenack in spank the monkey , racist , nazi , monkey , evolution , darwin , charles darwin , bible |
Have you ever wondered why it is considered calling a black person a monkey? In Europe the "thing to do" lately has been to mock black soccer players by making monkey noises. We know there have been some local incidents where black people have been called monkeys.
