I should probably start 2008Posted by The Source in Untagged |
| Back at the office for 2008. I am happy to announce that my inbox is SPAM FREE!!!!!! LOL I know a few people who can't that for a start to the New Year. I can say for a fact that my cell phones Inbox did not end 2007 spam free. I consider all the Christmas and New Years SMS's to be spam created by Vodacom, MTN, Cell C and Virgin Mobile to be spam. In my head I have this idea that they have a special little office down in the basement that contains a little team of people who have one job and one job only.... Create SMS messages for special days and start sending them out. It makes sense if you think about how many times you forward an SMS and receive the same ones over and over again. So this year I didn't send ANY. Let's get busy... |

The body is willing... but the mindPosted by The Source in Untagged |
| Last night I had some friends over and this morning I am hoping that my mind will finally wake-up and follow suit with my body. I am thinking about getting older today. There is an Afrikaans expression - die siel is gewillg maar die vlees is swak - translated this says that the mind is willing but the body is weak. Today I have the exact reverse of this scenario. Apparently as you progress in age this become more of a daily routine than an actual saying. Commentary on 702 Talk Radio by the public was filled by questions yesterday as to whether this is the case with Thabo Mbeki and why he didn't put up a bigger fight. Why should he? He did his 8 years of service and should be allowed to get "tired". I do not assume for one moment that being President of any country is an easy thing to do. I think you are allowed to get tired and "give up". This brings me back to the physical state of the mind which resides within the brain - unless proven otherwise by scientists who have nothing new to discover. From what I understand we sleep to regenerate the brain. The brain has also being compared to a giant muscle in the past. This got me thinking that if you can take stimulants to build muscle and speed in sports, if there isn't a stimulant that would produce better performance for the brain. Would this also be considered cheating? Right now I think that my mind is tired and that I need to stop thinking untill it is well rested. I also think Thabo Mbeki should take the opportunity to have a good rest. *yawn* |

My new defencePosted by The Source in Untagged |
| Next time I see a woman in her nighties - I am going to have sex with her. I will have a cold shower afterwards as to not contract HIV and I will start planning to become President of a party who believes everything I say. If for some reason I am charged with rape I will just refer to the case against Mr Jacob Zuma - that should get me of the hook. A lot of questions will be asked but that is okay, I will be the peoples hero and nothing will happen to me. Is this a credible plan. I know I didn't use any logic when I started copy cay planning it, then again, logic doesn't seem to apply to anything anymore. Why should I waste my time on it? Why? Because it is the only thing I can actually justify for myself. So should you. I know that people are saying that Jacob Zuma was prosecuted by the media but where there is smoke... This is the example for the youth - irrelevant of whether he is guilty or not. The new example is just to stick with your story no matter what. Just play to the crowd, sing a little song and they will follow. We are taught that all people should be treated as equals but how can I treat them as equals when my intellect based on common logic precedes theirs by leaps and bounds. For those who didn't understand the last sentence: I am clever and you are stupid so we can't be friends anymore! Becoming President doesn't look like an impossible task anymore - now I just need a party name. |

Demographically SpeakingPosted by The Source in Untagged |
| I was driving on the N1 back from a weekend in Polokwane (fun, fun, fun). Now having too much time to sit down and think I started working on the following problem that we have in this country. To explain my reasoning I am going to give a few examples. Example 1: You have a dart board with 18 black blocks and 2 white blocks. You through the dart and chances are 80% that you will hit the black block. Example 2: You jump from a bridge. In the water there is a rock. Chances are very good that you will hit the water and not the rock. This is called common sense. No when you look at the Aids demographics in South Africa it makes "sense" that most of the people who have the disease are black. It makes sense that most people making use of public transport are black. This doesn't mean that there aren't any white, indian or coloreds who also have these problems. This does however mean that not every aspect in South Africa is racial intended at the end of the day. As a society we are quick on the draw to point fingers to racial purpose when things get out of hand but we never think to use common sense as to why must incidents are related to black people. Demographically it should and it does. If aids only applied to white, indian or colored people then we would have grounds to say that it is a racial disease. If only whites, indians and colored people benefitted from the new taxis because only they made use of the service - then we could say it is racial. So wake up and have a cup of common sense. |

Over 1000 yearsPosted by The Source in Untagged |
| The airwaves were buzzing yesterday with the sentencing of the mass serial rapist who was found guilty for over 200 charges against him. 60 of these charges are for the 60 woman he raped - 60. The judge made it clear that the highest punishment allowed - which is life - was not good enough. That however was all he could dish out. My question is - where do you find the time to rape 60 woman over any period of time? What goes on in your head to justify this behaviour to yourself? You need at least a few marble loose and ..... and nothing, you mus't be F*&*ed up. The SAP came to the party this week with some positive news coverage. Cash heists been stopped, robbers being identified in Yeoville and now the successful wrap up of this Serial Raper case. 702 (Talk Radio) - my new addition on the N1 - actually had a snippet of the interview with the leading inspector who handled the investigation. You could hear that this guy was proud of a job well done. He sounded relieved and hoped that the verdict would provide some closure to the victims. You deserve to feel proud of yourself. We are quick to draw the blades when the SAP mess up but we also need to take notice of great deeds being done. I personally think the media should get behind this trend and give us a positive view of the SAP. It isn't always bad, negative and revolting behaviour on their behalf. The Yeoville incident saw one die because he was walking over to the car to investigate it. Was that what he signed up for - no. I personally have the greatest respect for the SAP in Sunnyside Pretoria who helped me with two incidents a few years ago. One being my attempted Hi-Jacking where they caught the guy within ten minutes of me reporting it to them at a garage a few blocks away. Another where I was dropping of a friend and there was someone outside the flats who kept on trying to open the car door every time I tried to stop. The SAP escorted us to the premises, the guy saw them and took of into a dark alley. The SAP just got out of their cars and ran after him into the dark. They had no idea whether he carried a gun or planned any attack on them. They had a job to do and that job was to find out why this guy is a potential danger to innocent South Africans. I take my hat of to that. Yes we have corrupt cops but we can't just always stare into that wall. We also have good cops, we just never see them. |

We can move beyond this nowPosted by The Source in Untagged |
| So yesterday I called thenack an idiot, it happens. So this morning I read his follow up article and response and I am sitting thinking about my comment... it took me about 5 seconds to come to the following conclusion. A conclusion based on most of the blogs that just make a statement and later - after the flames spurred up - provide us with a better insight as to why the statement is supported. If you are going to take the time to make a statement, why don't you also take the time to fully motivate you feelings as to why you are making the statement. It would surely clear up the matter and save you from comments that suggest you are and idiot. This isn't limited to only thenack. We have had a few authors and bloggers who just blurp out their anger and then return to either edit the original posting or write a brilliant follow up that contains all the facts. Then again I actually love blogs like that. Blogs that get people talking and sparks a reaction in the comment boxes. It is blogs like these that provides proof that we are being read. People are taking time to read what we think and feel. Gees thenack, I called you an idiot and you should love me for it. You should love the other people who argue with you and comment with you. It is evidence that MyDL is a place where people who actually think for themselves come together and discuss actual topics. I don't call anybody an Idiot. So even if I did, you actually got my attention and that is by far a bigger accomplishment in the vast vaults of articles we receive everyday. Bravo! |

I gave him the competition's numberPosted by The Source in Untagged |
| The previous company I worked for had a "flagship" product that "tended" to the needs of the Estate Agents. Basically promoting and managing the sales of property and rentals. I left the company about four months ago. About half an hour ago an estate agent contacted me with regard to the product and I gave him the number of this companies competition. I feel that I have done him the greatest favor. My reasoning is simple. The product idea was a great one. The development got a bit shaky due to the fact that mostly two developers were working on it and had to do other task during this process as well. Whenever they finished an upgrade it was never tested before going into the market. Not that we didn't want to test it, but the "management" just pushed it out to keep the complaining customers happy. When the bugs started surfacing we had a new set of complaints. Now I am not putting the blame on any of the developing staff and their capabilities. I am putting the blame for a poor product on the owner of the company who was focussed on the bank balance rather than the quality of the product. This however is not the main reason why I did what I did. When you refer people to a company/product or service you are adding your name to it. Yes people are going to blame the company for the problems that they experience but they are going blame you to a certain degree as well. So how can I attach myself to this company and ruin my good name. Yes it does seem very arrogant of me to say that I have a good name but when clients are still phoning me to find out if I can help them because the previous company can't then it is a good indication that the level of service I gave them is still in their minds. At the end of the day I would love to help you. I would love to create the product the way you wanted it to work without any bugs and provide it at a reasonable price. But I can't according to my contract. I can only do this after a year. The whole team can only do this after a year. Maybe we should take this year and finish it, provide it to you and become the new competition. For now... rather call someone else |

I think we are alone nowPosted by The Source in Untagged |
| I am very mush aware that voters in South Africa are not getting what they voted for. They were sold a general idea, painted a picture of the future which isn't been completed. Various factor need to be taken into consideration, but the bottom line is still the same. Understand the fact that I have never been "poor" so I can't relate to what it feels like living in shacks and struggling for a living. I truly believe that the minister serving this country can relate to it... but do they remember. That is another question. I do not believe that some of them are filling their positions for the greater good of the country or to right the wrongs of the past. I believe that the role of support towards Jacob Zuma is that of personal gain in the form of higher positions within the party relating to higher salaries. I believe that what the people want and what the party stands for is two different sides of a coin. "Representation" is a word that might be used but I hardly believe it is relevant... |

Shed this...Posted by The Source in Untagged |
| The load shedding has actually only effected me the last few trips on the N1. It has in effect stolen 6 hours of my life which I had to spend just sitting in traffic. Traffic which is caused by cars backing up because the traffic lights aren't working. Spending 1 hour on 25 km's is not my idea of fun. This reminds me of a blog Nalayrag posted where he posed the questions about businesses who keep all their lights burning during the evenings. Eskom also recently made a comment where they proposed a plan to the government that would enable them to upgrade faster and save more money on the long run. What will happen in 2010 if - and I can't imagine the alternative solution being ready - Eskom does not have the upgrades finished?
