iBio: The book of Job

Posted by Echoes in Steve Jobs , princess echoes , john ive , jean dennis , iTunes , ipad , Apple

I’ve just finished reading the kindle version of the biography, Steve Jobs by Walter Isaacson. I have to admit, I was quite reticent about reading a biography that I had heard was just a little self-serving. However, Walter Isaacson is an old pro at this – he has tackled some other heavyweight life stories and each one was handled with the same respect and sensitivity.

Thank you, Steve Jobs

Although we knew why Steve Jobs left Apple when he did, it was still a shock reading about his death via Twitter and Facebook yesterday.

Tablets, OS's and a realistic robot.

Posted by OS GIKEN in tablet , Steve Jobs , Robot , Repliee , OS , Droid , Apple , android , Actroid

I've been quiet for a minute now, but while in my hibernating state I sat back and kicked my feet up, 2 kids and a house later I've decided to return with hard hitting nothings and soft hitting everything’. The technology scope has changed so much over the last 18 months that one cannot pin point when it started. I've been pushing my brain into overdrive trying to figure out when exactly this revolution happened and were we all prepared for the onslaught of products all basically doing the same thing.

Take one pill in the morning, and two in the...

Tablets, its more of an accessory in malls and more of a "look at me I'm hip and cool" object in meetings and conferences. I always crack myself up when I see people trying hard not to be fazed by their using the iPad or Galaxy tab; you know that look people have when they try to act normal using something they know is amazing? They act as if they've been stroking touch screen pads since 1993, and speaking to a screen with someone else in it from 500kms away as if it’s nothing. I'm a realist, when something as amazing as a tablet pc is in my palms I go nuts about it. When I get to work all I hear is this guy was at that party with this tablet pc...Ok so we don't talk about people's shoes or their handbags or their watches anymore, we mention their tablet pc? And what the hell is wrong with people that go out to clubs and parties and restaurants with this bloody thing? Don't you already have your iPhone or BB that does what the tablet does but is just smaller for your and everyone else's convenience?

Mine runs on Android, mine runs on...

Really? Seriously? When I turn on the radio, all these hip new age kids talk about what OS will be on what phone next month. And this OS is slow and that OS can't multitask and those OS's are Gikens...sorry. What does an Android add to your existence? How does a faster OS do for your wellbeing? Why would I want to know about the next best OS? Just give me a phone that does what you say it will do very well, and then leave me be. To me it sounds like gibberish when people spend 5 minutes talking about who's OS is better, what happened to talking about real matters in life, like Whacky Wednesday's increase in prices over the last 5 years?

iRobot, do the robot dance yeah!

While you are all concerned with the exiting of Steve "Jobless" Job(s) the nerds on the far East of the world are making humans! Yes, they are making humans! I repeat they are making humans! Droids, robots...things that look like you and me, well like them, and repeat certain encoded messages to you when prompted!
See your friend of the future here

its amazing that while the world concerns themselves with things that don't really matter, we all forget that people are trying to find new and better ways of robotisizing our society. This might sound like an Illuminati New World Order agenda but this is taking place, and look at the advancements made already! Hearts, limbs, eyes are being replaced by robotic versions and have complete function! This is obviously the brilliant side to this shiny coin, but the scary part is that the robots and androids they create look way too real for my liking! In 2065 we won't know who's real and whose robot.

Some things to think about next time you swipe your finger over the Android powered tablet while sipping a Margarita with your oversized shades on trying to look cool, while you are doing this Repliee is trying to take your life!

Will These Replace The Laptop?

Posted by OS GIKEN in Windows , Steve Jobs , Speed , Space , Samsung , RIM , RAM , PlayBook , phone , pc , OS , notebook , Netbook , laptop , ipad , interface , Galaxy Tab , blackberry , Apple , Achilles

They’ve given it different names, yet it still looks the same. From laptop, to notebook to netbook…who knows what the differences are? Some will quote you the differences off hand, some will swear there is a noticeable difference, but honestly…there is no difference, its something that’s not stationary, you can carry it around and work on it no matter where you are! Now, it’s no more a phone war. Microsoft dabbled in phones to steal some of Apple’s market share, and then Steve became blatantly upset, and vented like any self respecting man would. Now, everyone is tossing his supposed salad!

All these new phones!

Posted by OS GIKEN in Steve Jobs , omnia , MTN , iPhone , ipad , devil , Contract

In my current position, I get nice perks, like free phone and free airtime, and everything over that freeness is subtracted from my salary. So I never really worried about the phone market for the past year and a couple of months. Then, I saw an iPhone! Now those who know me, know that I was lambasting the iPhone for all its worth and basically saying Steve Jobs is the devil.

I don't think anyone can comprehend how much I want an iPhone, even more, how much I want an iPad! I've been looking at contracts, but since my last ordeal with the contract...we've added up, I probably paid close to R40 000 in cell phone charges alone since Jan 2009 till now from my MTN cell phone contract and my work phone going over its limit! And what makes it worse, is that my Omnia, rest in peace, was stolen about a year ago, and no, I didn't think cell phone insurance was necessary! So I've been paying off a phone that was stolen, we are basically just using the sim card with the supposed free minutes, or free R200 p/m charged per minute which equates to MTN's R3 per minute or something like that...can you now see how I'm being analy raped by a cell phone company?

We've vowed to get my wife a cheaper contract and a newish phone since her current Nokia is way past its meeting with the grim reaper of the cell phone realm. But with the amount of phones on the market, its totally ridiculous how many phones now seem attractive. Like I said, I haven't been paying attention to the phone game since Jan 2009!
I've decided I'll surprise wifey with a BlackBerry with the free internet, because that's all she needs! And I'll buy myself a second hand iPhone and just use my work sim card for free airtime! A second hand iPhone that's still in good nick, meaning the screen works and everything else works, goes for about R2500-3000. I'll just get me a white cover and then I'll buy the APPS I so dearly want/need!

What phones out there, compared to the blackberry, the cheapo, are really any good?

Os over and out - not being in this phone game has really made me wonder, have they solved all the issues with the touch screens since Jan 2009? Must I still lock myself into a contract AGAIN for 2 years after this horrible experience I just went through? Is it cheaper, or easier to rather buy airtime then to have a contract?

Apple and its patents vs. HTC and the people.

Posted by OS GIKEN in WiFi , Steve Jobs , Search , Samsung , patents , Nokia , Nexus1 , MSN , iPhone , ipad , Google , Bing , Apple , 3G

If, like me, you are for change, freedom, voice and innovation, you'd have noticed the public spat between Apple and HTC. To give you a short and narrower version, Apple sued HTC because HTC violated some of Apple's iPhone patents. The word violated correlates with wrong doing, illegal obsession, and forced action. I'm not going into the lawsuit but rather I'll focus on my unimpressed feelings towards Apple!

Pinpoint patents to its originator.

The wheel, the round thing that allows something on it to move from one point to another, cannot be pinpointed to a definitive creator! Can the liquid display technology be pinpointed to a definitive creator? Can the button be pinpointed to a definitive creator? More still, can the speaker into which one speaks be pinpointed to a definitive creator? Apple listed tons of patents that it believes HTC have used in their phones that is a direct copy of iPhone's patented products. For more info on this read here.

I understand patented law, but the shape of the iPhone has been replicated by many other phone manufacturers. The touch screen ability was the iPhone's baby, or not! We can argue that it’s never been used in a phone… yes, but what about the early, very early Palms? I have to say as much as I hate to admit it, Apple is right here, they have patented a product, and this means no one else can use it without Apple's consent. If something looks like an iPhone, one has to start asking questions... HTC and Google are partners with their Nexus1 looming as Apple iPhone's biggest competitor yet...the plot thickens!

HTC and the people.

The people of Google love innovation. HTC prides itself of 13 years worth of HTC specific innovation, like smart phones even way before every 7th grade child had the inkling know how of Tweeting on a touch screen phone that does everything, which is essentially a smart phone. Since their partnership, Apple's Steve Jobs has been rambling about Google and Apple having their own territories, their own agendas. Basically he wants them to stay where they are, and allow Apple to stay where it is...

Apple's under carpet move.

If two businesses that have never been seen as competitors exist in a market where their buyers use the same product scope, there can only be harmony! People use Google more than Bing, or MSN or whatever other search engine you would suggest to them. Now, they can use said Google on a phone, even better, an iPhone! To me business sense comes into play where you figure out ways to expand and delve into markets you are not known to show an interest in. The bookies could not predict this. But the Nexus1 will be built by HTC...what collaboration! Google and HTC gunning for the top stop, which so happens to be held by non other than Apple's iPhone.

Apple is watching you...

Posted by riiaan in Steve Jobs , iPod , iPhone , Greed , gadgets , Apple

Apple is watching you...

Apple patents software that will punish you if you do not watch their advertisements...

I don’t like watching TV. Too many advertisements. It is none stop, but I can understand that. The money the advertisers spend, gives me the opportunity to watch the program for free. (Kind of free, anyway).
