Windows and Mac OS real life calculators just feel right

OS_calculator5 It is a strange truth that probably the defining characteristic of geeks like us is our absurd fascination with old technology. Whether that outdated version of windows running on my partition gives me comfort, peace of mind or just memories of better computing days, who knows, but there it is and long may it stay. While going through my daily grind I opened up my calculator app in windows and I was struck by a thought, “imagine if there was a real life device that could do calculations for me”

After a quick job around the internet I saw my dreams come true, with these OS calculators. They are the brainchild of Mintpass and we can only hope Bill Gates and Steve Jobs don’t stick them in jail for these creative totems for geeks of all ages.

Yes finally you can hold the Windows or Mac calculator in your hand. The OS calculators take us full circle with computer imitating life and then life imitating computers. Am I the only person wondering how to ctrl-z on these things?

It’s time to forget about that annoying imaginary line that stands between you and the grey box on your desk. Finally you can have all that you most love and desire in your OS and take it on the road with you too. The OS calculator comes in two flavours Windows and Mac, sorry no Linux.

(Perhaps if we all wish very hard we’ll get a pocket terminal window we can carry around with us in case we need to SUDO and increase our rights prior to a chat with the boss or wife.)

os_calculator2While sadly these designs may never see the light of day I am very impressed with the attention ot detail with the Mac version sporting the metallic look and dual line display it’s famous for. I wonder if the windows version comes with a blue screen of death?

Not since I replaced the beta badge on my final version of Gmail have I had such a feeling of womb like safety and security. Sure we need to go out there and face the world but that doesn’t mean we can’t take a bit of our world with us. The OS calculator is the comfort blankie for the geek in all of us. Now if only it came out in the scientific version so we could get the engineers in on this.

These look really cool.

I would get one... if they were real. Who knows, maybe the design inspires them (Apple/Microsoft) to commit to something.

That's all we need, a calculator with a virus and another which forces us to download the answers from the iAnswers store.

With things like the iPad and the iPhone even physical text keyboards are becoming a thing of the past.

I can already see my kids telling me that they need an iPad or tablet because they need to use the calculator in class.

What happened to the good old Sony calculator we all had to use in High School?
