Yo, Saffas! Did you know that there is currently an important local election going on? But don't worry, you foreigners who live here, you don't have to be a holder of the (worthless) green passport to be able to vote in this particular election. In fact, you don't even have to live in South Africa or ever have set your foot on our fair shores as a visitor to cast your vote.
No, don't worry, it's nothing remotely as dodgy or farcical as the Zim elections. Our beloved country might be heading in our northern neighbour's footsteps enough, what with our media freedom now hanging by a fragile thread, but in this instance, it is all above board. Gosh, there is even more than one name on a ballot! Of course, we can't discount the possibility that some of the candidates won't resort to the all-too-African habit of intimidation or downright bribery to get votes, but mostly voters are free to make up their own minds.
It is the 2010 South African Blog Awards and one of myDL's most Charmed netizens has been nominated! That's right, the Charmed herself has been nominated for her other blog in the Best Science and Technology category. You have until now until the 17th of September to vote for her, once every 24 hours! (Yep, the organisers clearly couldn't resist adding a LITTLE bit of an African twist to the voting procedures.) And YOU BETTER DO IT, OR ELSE...
What's this about intimidation? What are you TALKING about? I would NEVER threaten/bribe anyone! (But, you do realise of course that she has the power on here to bestow or revoke authorship. I'm just sayin'...)
I'm just kidding!!!!! Not about her nomination or about how you can vote for her once a day until the 17th - no, that's all true. However, she has no idea that I'm blogging about this. Gosh, she hasn't even told me that she has been nominated! She's way too modest! I coincidentally found that out all by myself and is hereby taking it upon myself to campaign on her behalf.
So, please vote for her? Because even though there are judges as well, it is still mostly up to the readers to vote for their favourite nominees.
