Port Elizabeth my hometown

Port Elizabeth. Why wouldn’t they? I think it’s because there are South Africans who overlook Port Elizabeth. Well let me explain why I say this.

A strange experience got me thinking about my hometown. I had three lovely ladies as guests for the entire week. They were from Pretoria and Johannesburg. They had come to Port Elizabeth to attend training. The entire week went of well or so I had assumed. On Friday they packed their bags and were all ready to go when one of the ladies came to me to say goodbye. She thanked me for the hospitality and ended with the strangest remark. She said " P.E. is nice but its just not for me way to boring and slow paced"

I have to admit I was really taken aback by this comment. I actually felt highly offended as she had just insulted the place where I was born. I told that I loved P.E.

She then asked me when last I had been to Jhb.....  It was all so strange I just remember this 10 minute debate about P.E. vs Jhb.

I went back into the house and couldn’t stop thinking about what had just happened. The biggest thing that stuck with me was the look she had on her face when I was

speaking about P.E. It was as if she was thinking you poor little girl, you really need to get out more. I got the idea that she thought I had no idea of the world

and what it had to offer simply because I didn’t agree with her idea that Jhb was far better than P.E.

I wish I had told her that I have been to Singapore and Malaysia. I have been to Phuket one of the best shopping destinations ever. I have been on a huge cruise ship

where it anchored in the middle of the ocean. The passengers got in tiny little boats that could only hold eight people at a stage. The little boat took us to Krabi island. The island was smack bang in the middle of the ocean. The entire island was the size of our Soccer City Stadium. White beach with luke warm ocean waters. Absolutely stunning.

With all that said there just is no place like home. Don’t get me wrong I’m not one of those old folks who love their birth place. No, I am 27 years old and I've always

had this incredible love for Port Elizabeth. The beaches, the people not to mention the incredible history that it has. Yes it is in the Eastern Cape one of the poorest provinces in S.A. but that fact alone should not sway you from experiencing Port Elizabeth.

Its may be a small town but it most certainly has a big heart. So no matter what people say, I love Port Elizabeth!

I have only ever been to PE once and can admit it is one of SA's Jewels (alsmost as beautiful as the Lowveld smilies/wink.gif ). People who like to live in places like Joberg are running from themselves that is why they can't stand to be in a place where they actually find themselves (like PE). The fast pace gives them the illusion of being in control. The sheer amount of people around help them hide.
