With the National Matric Results now released let us not look at the World Cup or the strike as the reason for the results being what they are.
Matric is a 12 year journey and for many off those that wrote it was a journey undertaken in conditions less than perfect. To succeed we need to have the right environment in place with schools that are properly housed, teachers that are trained, qualified and motivated to teach. We also need to have the right text books available at the beginning of each year and each pupil needs to have the right tools to be able to study.
Not everyone has that that wrote matric in 2010 so to all of you who did not have that I take my hat off to you. Well done.
In my opinion it is the responsibility of the Government that we elected to ensure everyone has an opportunity to succeed. Since 1994 ensuring that everyone at all levels but especially in the primary phase, has all the tools and conditions in place should have been the number one priority of the Government.
Defence Contracts, Luxury Cars etc should have been way lower on the list. Imagine what the results would have been if that money had been ploughed into upgrading schools, increasing teacher salaries, providing the right tools.
I believe the results out today would be very different.
