Hardware technology by itself is just a useless piece of plastic/metal/grains of sand.

Add some software technology and it starts to come alive. But that is where it remains.

Add an application technology that addresses a business need and you now have my technology highlight of 2011.

Using the iPad and the iOS as the Hardware and Software Technology alone would not address one of the largest challenges top executives face today. Executives attending formal meetings are provided with mountains of documentation to read before the meeting often only a few days before the meeting. This documentation often known as a Board Pack is frequently over 500 sheets in size.

Organisations are killing forests just to get information to executives in a format that is frequently discarded after the meeting (into the shredder).

Create an application technology on the iPad that can contain the documents, provide meeting details in a diary format, access to critical company information not usually in the pack and you have my winning technology of 2011. ICSA Software's BoardPad does this enabling executives to get their documentation in a secure format, lighter to carry, easier to find your way round the annotations and once the meeting is over the bits are automatically moved to the bit bucket.

When technology like this addresses a business problem then you have a winning solution and hence my choice of technology for 2011 is a great piece of hardware with a good OS and a serious piece of application software.
