Joomla in my opinion is becoming the biggest CMS in our current time.

I am still amazed by people who are sending their children to Varsity to learn Microsoft Front Page. The only reason I am mentioning that is because I had to consult with one of these whiz kids the other day. Needless to say I felt like a genius.

Being Open Source, Joomla has gained the thumbs up from most web designers, developers, graphics designers and of course the end user. In discussion with a Database Administrator from an online casino game development company, it became clear that in his line of work they are getting worried that the need for SQL Programmers will soon be null and void.

I personally think that we still have a long way to go before that happens. Why is Joomla in specific so ... great.

Ease of use. With all the basic needs already packaged into the main distribution, it leaves room for developers to create additional features that tends to their needs. While it is easier to maintain content and publish information, you still need some basic coding knowledge to customize it further.

HTML, PHP, Java, MySQL, ASP, CSS, etc. Basically everything is covered and can be handled by Joomla. The Editors are what really got my attention. Looking in specific to the ability to use a front end plug-in to allow clients to edit their content without accessing and messing around in the administrative section. The level of access still leaves development companies in control while placing more power in the hands of its clients.

I do not think that Joomla would have been as successful in the Open Source Community if it wasn't for it's forum support base. Virtually every problem you run in to is covered. The great thing is the constant addition of new components, modules and bots that are developed by the community.

For those interested in Joomla you can visit the main site on www.joomla.org.

In my personal opinion Joomla is to the web what Ubuntu is to OS. A new and well deserved break from paying for problems created by money hungry companies.

Your President

I just hope that the Joomla support forum doesn't end up like the phpBB support forum: overloaded to the point where it is completely unusable!

I actually had no problem with phpBB 2.8. My main problem started when I upgraded to phpBB 3.

It felt like they were to focussed on becoming Vbullin. Interesting concept, a support forum about forumware. It's like Help Support for Help :grin
