Internet Explorer users said to have lower IQ

Well, for a long time I've thought it is silly to use Internet Explorer - it's slower, less aesthetically pleasing and just plain worse than other browsers (in my view at least).

I used Internet Explorer for years before I discovered the wonders of Firefox. More recently however I've moved to Chrome. I have Windows Vista - RAM is a precious resource which is already overused just by my operating system. Therefore, I always figured any browser other than Internet Explorer was the smarter choice.

However, now there's a study to back this idea. IE users have been ranked with the lowest IQ's, whilst Opera and Camino users had the highest IQ's.

Doubt has been raised over the validity of these claims, since IE users were given an average IQ of 80 - a bit on the Forrest Gump side.

Also a concern in my mind is: who was the study funded by? Surely, anyone not secure in the intellectuality will now change their browser?

While in my opinion IE is a dumb choice, maybe there are some good points to it? (As doubtful as that is)

So dear users, I ask you for your opinion. What is the best internet browser, and why do you think it's the smart choice?

Tata for now.

EDIT: It turns out that the study was a hoax, which fooled the likes of BBC, CNN and other major news broadcasters. I'm annoyed with the hoaxers (is that a word?), but at the same time, I want to kind of high five them.

Nevertheless, the whole thing does bring into question which browser is best? And is there significant improvement needed with even the one you consider best?

Still want to hear your thoughts :)

Although I also despise IE, I'm also somewhat skeptical about this finding.

I also have Vista on my one laptop (not by choice) and also use Chrome on that. And FireFox on my other.

Haha I just saw that smilies/smiley.gif Thinking about adding an edit note at the bottom to rectify it. Nevertheless, there are arguments to be had over which is the best browser

I guess there isnt a straight answer, each browser has its pros and cons... I myself have been a firefox fan for years but lately chrome has won me over for sheer lightness of the interface and ease of use... I still use both browsers though as I love firefox and its extensions while chrome I use for quick browsing and opening millions of tabs while researching....
erm, I.E. 9... well I have it installed and use it now and then (since I do web developement and always curious to see different browser rendering) and mostly open it up for "guest" users accessing my laptop. Right now I am typing this in chrome smilies/smiley.gif

Good points Sameer, but if you could only choose one browser (desert island scenario), which would it be?

Dissol, my view is that only incredibly intelligent people fall for hoaxes smilies/tongue.gif

Sameer, I used to love Firefox too, but RAM limitations due to Vista broke that up smilies/smiley.gif

I liked Firefox, but there have been too many compatability problems. Certain table formats dont work:- to the extent that an on-line brokerage that I use specifically stated that Firefox will not be supported until they get the formatting in order.
Now use Chrome, but I dont see a nice 'Password' management system: like Firefox for it. Chrome doesn't have the same overall control.
