Google today announced that its latest cool product is available to more than just the lucky few we got it by invite only.
Google Voice is now available to everyone... in the US. That means that once again here in South Africa we loose out. I can just imagine that Telkom, Vodacom and MTN are happy with that.
Google Voice made the announcement via their official blog.
In the past I have used the voice capability in Gmail and the Gtalk desktop application and must say that the quality of a call was very clear. It also didn’t have the delay that Skype gave me calling friends in Ireland and Slovakia.
Google Voice takes it a step further by offering you on number for all your numbers.
So you can effectively connect your home landline, cellphone number and any other numbers you might have to this one number. Almost like a one stop shop. You can currently use Google Voice on your Android, BlackBerry, PalmOS and iPhone to make and receive calls. To make calls Google gives you the option to buy credits and phone locally or internationally at lower rates than that provided by your current service provider.
Maybe in the future we might see a new telecommunication company in SA and wont have to rely on Vodacom or MTN to speak to family and friends.
