Let's get something straight. I don't care about soccer.

What I do care about is South Africa and I love how this World Cup has brought people together. I love seeing South Africans so happy, I love seeing differences mean nothing (Soweto Bulls match for eg). It would be great if this could happen with something I do care about, but it doesn't matter that it hasn't.
What matters is that it's something many South Africans do care about. And it's something that has brought the world to our shores, that gives us the chance to show what Africa is really like, to disprove myths about being backwards and riding elephants. And if I have to put up with vuvuzelas for that... it's worth it.

Today South Africans lined the streets to show support for their team and to celebrate the fact that "it's here". After all, we've been looking forward to it for so long. I got some great pictures on Rivonia Blvd by the myDL offices:

There's also some video footage on YouTube taken on my cell camera - not the best quality but it captures the spirit :)
