It doesnt get worse for the Canadians, Cele coming!!!!Posted by tmagaisa in Untagged |
You have to feel for the Canadians. They have to deal with bitter snow storms every year. Their grip on the mining sector in Africa is being loosened daily by the Chinese, the Queen rarely visits them despite their unwavering support for the monach and horror of all horrors, they wake up today to the bad news that General Cele will a diplomat in their country. What did they do to deserve this man?
With his take on crime, shoot to kill attitude and daily xenophobic rants, they will certainly not seek his counsel. Canada has major murder problems, like South Africa but the similarities end there. It is the most immigrant friendly country in the world. The general will definitely put a big foot in his ever open mouth shortly, trust me. He is going to be shocked to find a country that actually invites immigrants across all racial and economic divide, save of course for the poor circus hand who ran away from marauding blacks here, where police actually catch criminals and serve the citizens, walk on foot to be visible, have high arrest rates and more importantly hardly carry guns. The general's worst nightmare is about to be real. No police helicopters to fly him to cell robbery scenes in Thembisa, no chasing of Zimbabwean and Conglese immigrants on the Durban beach and the worst nightmare of all, no media coverage. You got to give it to him, the general loves to be in front of the camera.
The SAPS public relations department will start doing their work now.
I feel sorry for him, seriously. I bet you the general's first order of the day will be to get the embassy a new property to lease. He has a love for luxury spacious properties that general. He will demand new address for the embassy and of course for the new head diplomat, himself. I feel sorry for the staff there too. They will probably have to wear full military attire and be given ranks. The Economic Attache will probably be a Brigadier General, with full regalia and heavy weapons to show for it and dont forget they will have dog tags to complete the military feel at the embassy. Am telling you folks, South African trade with Canada will hit an all time low by January 2012.
Its not only the Canadians that will feel him. The parent government back in Pretoria will feel the heat too. He will demand double the current financial allocation so he could renovate his diplomatic mansion and office so it could be warm. I mean, Canada is brutally cold folks. Its not like the warm climate in back in KZN. He will also demand a full time entourage of journalists from SABC, e-tv and The Star to be attached to the embassy so they could report daily on the new ambassador's daily walk abouts and press statements. Beam me up Bekhi!! Sorry good people at Talk Radio 702, you will miss out because you are not patriotic enough. The Pretoria Press Club will have to have to have their regular press conferences with the General beamed daily live from Canada so we could get updates. By the way, the government will have to pay for the journalists because they will be on national duty.

Desmond, Dalai and the TutusPosted by tmagaisa in Untagged |
What a week it has been. Those of us in IT and ordinary folks mourned the death of Steve Jobs, Sarah Palin decided not to run for the White House (like she was going to win anyways!) and more on the home front, the Dalai Lama decided not visit South Africa after failing to meet the local visa requirements.

Cheap life for sale, any bidders?Posted by tmagaisa in Untagged |
Woke up to a screaming headline in one of our popular weeklies describing how the National Prosecuting Authourity negotiated for a murderer to pay the family of his victim R750 000 to avoid jail. That would have have a scandal in any country that uphold the law and dispences the law equally to all its citizens despite race, creed or colour. It would have been a scandal had the victim been white South African and perpetrator black. But this is South Africa. Black lives are worth a couple of quid, especially at the hands of "upstanding whites who come from God fearing family" and who have the law to make sure that they would never be punished for their acts. That prosecutor should be fired and the judge who presided over the farce should be disrobed.

Libya, the true story. U wont see this on CNN, BBCPosted by tmagaisa in Untagged |
With the sad and recent events in Libya, it has been difficult to get a balanced story on what is truly happening in this oil rich African Arab country. Before the recent bloodshed, Libya had the best infrastructure on the continent, rivalling some of the so called western democracies. All its wealth had been accumulated through exploitating of its oil and beneficiation processes. It did not colonise or sponsored mecernaries like France, Britain et al. I could go on but i thought i could share the italised article below with like minds and it was written by Jean-Paul Pougala, an elightened writer from Cameroon.

Freedom of expression my footPosted by tmagaisa in Untagged |
I had a pleasant morning today after I read Eric Miyemi's The Bullet Bite in the The Sowetan. I must admit that the paper is not on my subscription list but a friend suggested I read the column. I thought it was thought provoking and since he is a columnist, he is entitled to express his personal opinions on current affairs. His take on the City Press story was rather radical and refreshing. Its true most people in public office, both in the ANC and DA have trusts but it has never been news worthy, until somebody decided to take a dig on Malema. I think it is his legal right to have a personal trust, if it meets the laws of the country. Despite all the Malema story of the past 10 days, no one has thus far proved that that the guy is involved in illegal activities. The story is based on nameless witnesses and I think its only fair if someone has proof of Malema being guilty of breaking any law to bring it to the police, or if they are scared, had it over to the Fourth Estate to pass it over to the police. I mean, lets be honest, who wouldnt want to go down in history as the person who brought down Malema?
Miyeni is right in arguing that Mandela has a trust and many people, including shoddy businessman financially support it, but nobody complains. Is it because most is the Mandela benefactors are white and Malema's are black? Was Miyemi fired because he attacked Haffajee or because he took Malema's side? Why is it that if a black cloumnist questions the status quo he or she is fired immediately and if a white columnist writes racist articles week in week out they get credit? Are good black columnists praise singers like Justice Malala, Mondle Makhanya and Jacob Dlamini? Was Miyemi, like Kuli Roberts, fired to set an example to blacks with probing minds that you go against the establishment at your own peril? I think the firing of Miyemi is the real muzzling of the media. If Miyeni is guilty, so is Tim Cohen, Peter Delmar, Ben Trovalto, Donwald Pressly et al. The only difference between Miyeni and the later group is that they have a passport to write what they want because of their skin colour. This method may work in the short term but the future of this country lies in accepting our differences and opinions, not to muzzle certain parts of the community who do not own the means of communication. This only creates more resentment and hatred between the races.

City Power coining itPosted by tmagaisa in Untagged |
I watched with the disgust and horror the recent burning of a house and vehicle belonging to a former City of Johannesburg Councillor in Soweto over the cost of pre-paid electricity. It was a sad, thuggish way of expressing anger at the cost of electricity. However, I am starting to feel what the protesters were feeling. I had a nasty visit from a City Power sub-contractor one Sunday afternoon stating that my house had been randomly chosen to have pre-paid electricity and I had no option but to comply. A few frantic calls to City Power Call Centre yealded nothing but more threats of having electricity cut that same afternoon. Being the law abiding citizen that I am, I dully opened the gate for the sub-contractor to install the meter. That was the beggining of my nightmare. I was not told that the pre-paid electicity was charged more like pre-paid cellphone, with charges increasing at certain times of the month, it is very expensive during the last 10 days of the month.
To make matters worse, it was impossible to get the vouchers because they have not rolled out their vendor programme. After two months on pre-paid electricity, am convinced this programme was rolled out to increase City Power income not to serve the community. To add insult to injury, am still getting billed on on the old post-paid meter. I called them again and was told to ignore it and just pay for water. The figure is mounting and and the inconstitances on the pre-paid charges still continue. I think the Public Protector should also investigate the City Power pre-paid meter roll out. Should I burn someone's house to have my electricity issues settled?
