Thank you to every one who assisted, sympathised and put in effort to find our lovely dog. Jesse is safe and sound back at home! She was frightened and very thirsty but thank fully not hurt or ill. A quick visit to the doggy parlour, Dirty Dogs, here in Nelspruit had her in good spirits soon after. We had to have her dipped as she was covered in tiny red ticks, we wouldn't want to loose her to billary....
At least we can sleep again knowing our pup is safe and sound. The next mission is to get her a much needed vibrating collar. If anyone knows where we can buy such a collar it would be great to let me know. It would mean that we would have to train her some more but we establish a means of calling her back to us. No, a vibrating collar does not electrocute the dog! It vibrates much like a cellphone does and is an innovative way to communicate with the dog... I think, anyway! Vibrating collars are not even easily available in first world coutries. You can only imagine how hard it is to find one in RSA.
If you have a deaf dog and you struggle to control or to communicate with it there are some great websites with information. I even contacted Elizabeth-Ann Grewal who is a dog trainer who specialises in training deaf dogs in Australia. I must give her a whole lot of praise as her advice is invaluable. I am also going to take Jesse for obedience training with local dog trainers Pam and Linda who would like to make a case study of Jesse's training as they have never had a deaf pup to train before.

My beautifull dog Jessica Barker went missing in the Alkmaar area yesterday (N4 to Nelspruit). She is a very unique white Border Collie and cannot hear. She responds to signal commands - the command for "come here" is an outstretched arm towards your chest - bassically the universal call command. I am offering R1000.00 for her safe return. There is an epidemic other than AIDS that is destroying the world. Symptoms do not include physical ill-health but is a definite contributor to the breakdown of society. The scourge is plain STUPIDITY! Unfortunately there is no research done to find a cure for this rather prevalent ailment. 
I would like to give my stepfather a pill to cure his stupidity. He has this infuriating belief that everyone is out to get him in some way or the other. My mother divorced him 15 years ago and he still blames every tragedy and set-back in his life at present on her. Those that believe him get filed in the same category as he does – just plain ignorant. His dire circumstances most likely have nothing to do with his alcohol consumption or appreciation of giggle twig.
My tantrum is brought about by a call I received on New Year’s Eve at 19:13 from a number I do not know. Since the caller had the decency not to hide behind a “Private Number” I decided to answer thinking that it must be someone who would like to share the cheer. (And I was very cheerful indeed after a bottle of sweet Rosé) I was pretty shocked and amazed to hear my stepfather’s voice as he hardly ever makes contact with me! It is always up to me to keep the relationship going, not just on my brother’s behalf but because I just care about him. Needless to say he took the wind out of my sails by crapping on me for breaking his home PC!
He was raving mad because there are dinosaurs and spiders on his screen. This apparently prevents him from browsing the net. This is a good thing since he is accessing porn sites with no form of virus control installed! Yes, I confess I did do a few things on his computer but it was to help and not to destroy as he might believe. We actually had an appointment to meet so that I may download A.V.G. for him and show him a bit more about avoiding the pitfalls of net surfing. At 23h00 he still hadn’t shown up and I went home.
Now if he kept our appointment in stead of going to bar 
I could have shown him how to get rid of the “Oh so irritating” dinosaur theme on his PC. I’m all for personalizing your computer but having a pinkish purple dinosaur as an arrow key is just plain irritating!!! He specifically told me that I should not download anything for him as he refuses to foot the bill. Therefore I did not install A.V.G! I thought it better to wait for him to be there so that I could emphasize the importance of this one download to him. Or at least convince him to spend some money on some good anti-virus software.

How this destroyed his PC I’ve no idea? I do now that when I did run it I removed more than twenty two thousand cookies and the like. From what I could see it was all porn sites. Perhaps that’s where he picked up a virus now hampering him from using the computer he hooked up to the net just two weeks ago. I will not be perturbed by his ranting insults or his threats to take a hammer and bash the PC to pieces… I mean after all… How does bashing his PC to pieces affect me in any way?
All I know is that I went there with honest intentions to help him. The ungrateful oaf can get someone else to help him sort out his PC problems. I just hope whomever it is points out how helpful the software I installed was meant to be.

In a country like South Africa violent crimes make sensational front page news stories. Not a day goes by that a newspaper, wether local or national, does not report about the infringement of a citizens right to life by criminals. Criminals whose jealous intent it is to rob the working class hero of hard earned assests. Criminals who seemingly has more rights than the victims. Wikipedia defines security as: “the condition of being protected against danger, loss, and criminals. In the general sense, security is a concept similar to safety. The nuance between the two is an added emphasis on being protected from dangers that originate from outside.” Sad to say that Mr. Joe Average finds it hard to feel safe when paying attention to the news.
The general populace relies on government for safety and security. Not just at South Africa’s ill-managed borders but also to keep them safe from harm in day to day living. Is that not one of the myriad reasons taken into consideration in an election booth before making a choice? Most comments read and heard in casual conversations with regards to crime are that the government has left citizens in the lurch. A feeling permeates that more can be done by electees to fight crime and to protect the populace. The powers that be spoonfeed sheople with excuses like the high level of poverty and unemployment. But could there be more to it than that? Consider for a moment the substantial financial profits government generates from crime! Just think how the state bank accounts are inflated just by taking into account one variable, the tax charged on insurance pay outs! Could that account for their lack of dedication in crime prevention, detection and resolution?
Judging by the homes in our above-the-breadline suburbs, those that can afford it have taken it upon themselves to ensure their own safety and security. Technology with regards to fortifying your home is developing in leaps and bounds. Ever bringing closer the age of that trend setting family “The Jetsons” There are no limits to the inventions and interesting gimmicks. Biometric scanners are no longer a fictional dream but a reality with regards to access control. Ever increasing is the growing eye of “Big Brother”. The CCTV technologies becoming almost essential to monitor perimeters and points of access. Scary that such drastic measures are necessary to protect one where one is most vulnerable – at home.
This sense of insecurity has given rise to a booming security industry. Security companies play an essential role in giving many families a peacefull nights sleep. When placing your life in the hands of someone else while blisfully sleeping it is best to find a reliable service provider. All precautionary measures mean absolutely nothing if there is no man power to back you up… and it is a well known fact that the S.A.P.S is not as reliable as they should be. Be sure to weigh all options carefully when considering who that back-up team will be. The lowest qoute is not always the best service provider! The biggest company may lack man power to service a large client base. Check credentials and get some word of mouth info about the prospective company. Find out as much as you can before appointing your protectors. When in doubt remember that these will be people that protect you should you ever be in a life threatening situation.

Although it is a pretty horrifying thought bacteria reside in the human digestive tract. In fact, they play an essential role with regards to aiding digestion. As all living organisms do - bacteria multiply (*and fill up the gut!?
) Fortunately a fortified immune system protects the body from an unwelcome increase in the bacterium populace and successfully maintains a state of homeostasis despite the DAILY onslaught. Sometimes the bad guys living in your digestive system manages to overrun the body’s natural defences. This homeostatic imbalance is generally referred to as “the squirts”.
A sure sign of this unnatural state are freakish pains in the abdomen. Ever escalating until the sufferer is doubled over in pain or in a foetal position. The next symptom tests your athletic abilities to the extreme, especially your gymnastics prowess in the event of spilling stomach content at both ends. A by product of the rapidly multiplying evil forces is a foul smelling gas. This is that which the afflictee wishes to release with extreme caution to avoid stained underwear and real embarrassing moments.
Pharmaceutical companies make their fortunes from human suffering. Hmmm… doesn’t that seem unethical in some way? Of course there are many home brewed remedies that abound. Some of which has no real effect on your attempts at defeating the inner enemy. From flat coke to custard powder – very creative, but not effective! The humble guava offers a more immediate solution. Sangomas boil one leaf of the guava tree in one litre of water. Patients are required to consume the so-called panacea in very small doses to avoid a dramatic change in the bowel environment which would result in blocking the system. Simply eating a guava roll purchased at the local supermarket is far safer and much more effective at treating milder cases of diarrhea. It holds a certain appeal to children who gobble up the sweetie in no time. The stomach churning stops about thirty minutes after initial consumption. It is always advisable to buy extra of these delectable fruity strips in case one dose is not enough. Perhaps it is the preservative sulphur dioxide that actually does the trick? If a few hours later your symptoms are no more eat a cautious dose of pro-biotic yoghurt to help your good guys massacre the bad guys.
Unfortunately our country is battling the cholera spilling over from our Zimbabwean border. Therefore rather consult your doctor should you have diarrhea-like symptoms.

In these trying times it has become essential that all of us stretch every single cent we have to its limits. If you have already cut down on your expenses and are already eating bread for breakfast, lunch and dinner it still amounts to quite a staggering groceries bill at the end of the month. Never mind how paying tax on tampons enrage me, the exorbitant costs of bread, margarine and accompanying condiments are infuriating!

On Wednesday 05 November 2008 a 14 year old boy from Nelspruit became a victim of crime. He was was waiting for his father at "Hoërskool Bergvlam" where he is currently completing the 8th grade. The teenager was listening to music by means of his cellular phone to pass time. At approximately 14:00 he was approached by a young man, wearing a Lowveld High School uniform, who demanded the mobile unit. Upon refusal he was surprised by a second person with the same attire. A struggle ensued and the victim was stabbed. Both assailants fled the scene, one of them having the coveted item. Although the robbed youngster felt traumatised he did not suffer serious physical injuries.
