Unshackled Thoughts and Musings

Lately I've been having this overwhelming urge to write. Poetry? Prose? I don't know... Content? Fiction? Non-fiction? I'm not really sure... I do sit in front of my laptop for hours on end just strumming my fingers lightly over the keyboard. I do that sometimes, when I don't know what to write, yet the muse is shackled ever so slightly on my left shoulder. Never the right shoulder. I'm sure if she tries hard enough she could break free, but noooo.. She just sits there, quite happily restrained. Laughing. Then when the tapping of keyboard starts to bore me, I'd play around with a few sentences. Deleting them and start again. And so goes the process till I just close the document without saving. I like to write; I like to ramble about what ever tickles my fancy. Or scratches it, for that matter... Truth be told. I don't write hardly enough. So, pardon my ramblings, give me some space to clear the cobwebs out.

BlackBerry Curve 8520 Review

Being the winner of the BlackBerry Curve 8520, I couldn't wait to get my hands on the device. I'm a teensy bit of a phone fanatic even though I never had a smartphone before and I thought I might need to have a degree to set the phone up, but that was not the case at all. I usually try to do something without reading the manual first... Silly I know, but hey, there's a reason for my madness.

Gadgets I want (or not...) Part One - The iHat

iHat.

This stylish (or is it?) beanie is not only designed for keeping your head warm. It also has speakers somewhere inside, close to the ears I assume. Also you wont have the problem of your hair tangling up with the wires, its neatly sewn down the back of the hat, so you can hide it under your jacket/jersey/random outter garments.

The search wars are back again

Rumour has it that Yahoo is getting ready for a major campaign, of round about $80 million, and although they don't mention Google by name in any of the ads, its clear  Google is the enemy. Yahoo's tagline is "Your favourite stuff all in one place, Make Yahoo your home page." Also, "Your home page isnt blank or anonymous. It doenst hustle you out the door. It's a place that gets to know you, a place that finds things for you, a place you want to stay." (Personally, although there's nothing wrong with Yahoo's home page - you have a little bit of everything on there - I still prefer Google's minimalist approach when it comes to searching my stuff for me.)

Cool-er E-Reader. I want one

Heard of the Cool-Er E-Reader? (the name is a bit unoriginally taken from "cool e-reader,") the first consumer electronics product from Interead. Its been said that

"it's lighter, less expensive ($250), more colorful (it comes in eight colors), and more "open" than the Kindle, accepting a wider variety of file formats (JPEG, PDF, EPUB, TXT, and MP3 file formats.), much like Sony's e-readers do."

Unemployment is NOT a good sanity booster

I read on MSN News that SA has a work force of 12.8 million and that 1 in 4 South Africans are unemployed.

Now I've been uncarreered (sounds better than unemployed) for about 5 weeks. That's 5 weeks of job hunting, of sending out CV's and Application forms and writing and rewriting and then eventually copy and pasting cover letters. (It would be nice if some folk actually reply every once in a while. Ya know, something along the lines of "we appreciate your time and effort but unfortunately your application was unsuccessful." Good manners never really harmed anyone.)

Mobile sites I use

Posted by ShackledMuse in Untagged

ShackledMuse

Yesterday, I wrote about mobile sites and how it brings the world together.

I found these days that I don't use mobile sites so much anymore.  No URL with an M instead of WWW. Instead I just open the full site up in Opera Mini, and that works quite well for me.

The sites I frequent, are:

Mobile sites and the global village

Mobile sites.
Yay, I thought, something I could write about.
Only to find out I'm not so well-versed about them as I thought.

Sure, I wasted A LOT of hours on sites like Prodigits, Lavalair, UltimaWap and the likes. But thats not really anything substantial. (altho my good friend, Ra'ed Far'oun, and creator of LavaLair, would have some serious misgivings about our friendship if he sees me saying its not substantial.)

So in the defense of above mentioned mobile sites, let me point out the positive impact it had on my life.... lol.

Absence makes the heart grow fonder

Posted by ShackledMuse in Untagged

I do sincerely apologize for my long and unannounced absence. Yours truly needed to take some time out. I woke up on a not so lovely Monday morning 3 weeks ago and couldn’t face another day at my place of employment. To the point were I came pretty close to a nervous breakdown, got booked off from work for a week and was kindly informed to see a psychologist…
