On Friday, 19 August Shell Oil company announced that it had stopped the oil leak from Gannet Alpha platform in the North Sea.
More than 200 tonnes of oil have entered the North Sea from the pipe since the problem was first detected on August 10.

I just finished reading this article on Mashable and some interesting ideas came to mind.
“While the Internet is no longer a “Wild West,” people in power are still trying to figure out how best to approach online communities and their social tools. There may not be any clear answers, but social is certainly not going to go away.

On Monday 23 May and Friday 27 May, the Student HIV AIDS Resistance Campaign (SHARC) Society of Rhodes University, is hosting an HIV/AIDS test drive, offering free tests to all voluntary participants. And seeing as combating AIDS/HIV is one of the Millennium Development Goals, I thought it would be most appropriate to discuss this topic.
To re-cap this is the outline of the sixth MDG goal:
Combat HIV/AIDS, malaria, and other diseases
Target 6A: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the spread of HIV/AIDS
Target 6B: Achieve, by 2010, universal access to treatment for HIV/AIDS for all those who need it
Target 6C: Have halted by 2015 and begun to reverse the incidence of malaria and other major diseases

A friend of mine, Megan Evershed, is an Environmental Sciences student. She inspires me in so many ways because she is strong-willed and resilient in her fight for the greener side of life. She’s not just a hippie child who wants to chain herself to every tree being threatened with death-by-chainsaw. She is intelligent, logical and realistic in her arguments and for that, I stand by and support her cause.
