I have taken the liberty of copying a letter that I have received from the Southern Africa Vehicle Renting and Leasing Association. I cannot vouch for the details, but the information seems to be correct. c/o P O Box 84624, Greenside, 2034

Now that could be an expensive App...Posted by Dissol in Untagged |
I don't think you can download this one yet via iTunes (and thankfully they have not called it an iScooter...no, they had much more inspiration than that...after all you are talking Daimler Benz here... they called it eScooter - how different is that).
No, stop the sarcasm.
This is built by the same people that build the Smart car. It is a Scooter powered by electricity (oh, wait, you guessed that from the name, didn't you??). Yes, those wacky Smart people are making an ecologically friendly scooter (which fits right in their vehicle range ethos...along with the huge diesel lorries, and trucks...).
But actually there are some Smart(TM) ideas here...they have built solar panels into the front to help the range (100km is claimed). It has a special version of anti lock brakes (useful on a two wheel device aimed at the mass market). And also a blind spot detector (whatever that is...).
So...what is this doing in the Digital section, and what am I blathering on about with Apps, and the like?? Well...the key, and dashboard is your iPhone! Cool!! You plug your iPhone into a special little cradle on the handle bars, and this deactivates the immobilser, and anti theft devices (they don't say what the anti theft devices are...but I am hoping that 40,000Volts are sent through the saddle or something similar), and then it displays things like your speed, range, and presumably the usual sat nav stuff. Oh and they have clearly seen how I used to ride, as one of the settings is for a heart rate monitor!!!
Only trouble is. It is a combination of iPhone ($$$$) and Smart ($$$$$$). So expect to hand over your entire life's savings, in order to obtain one when they do become available.
