The future of Smartphones...and computing

I think I have seen the future, and it looks very exciting!  Although still in early days, and little more than a concept, Canadian researchers have produced a demo model (although still linked to a laptop at present.  The biggest problem I can see is batteries (this is always an issue with any smart phone / portable computer), but maybe we shall have access to some of the wearable batteries that have been promised for so long by then?

Trawling the internet, as I have a wont to do (this is what comes of not being able to sit through a film, when the family want to go to the (inaccessible, anyway) cinema. I remain at home, and find amazing/amusing/downright boring stories. There are stories each day to be had on the internet, and it does spread the availability of reading material. I am often surprised how few people use the net in this way.

My most useful iPhone apps.

I shall join the trend of posting my favourite iPhone apps. I have to admit, that I was very sceptical when I first got my iPhone 4 as an upgrade. I had been of the thought, that all I really wanted a phone for was to make calls, and to send SMS's. I had a decent camera, an alarm clock, and a tablet PC (which I take with me in my back pack everywhere). So I viewed all these apps, as a waste of time. But I have to admit that I have changed my view with using the iPhone. I do tend to use it frequently to check my emails on it, rather than firing up the computer. Although I had a FB account, and Twitter account, I was hardly a regular user, maybe only looking in once a month or so. Now, I am able to check & even update my own status easily, and quickly, from any where, and I find that very useful. One of the most useful extras that I have for the phone is not an app though. It is (or, more correctly, was, as I broke it this last week in Jo'burg) a battery/case, with the unfortunate name of Mophie. I don't like the design of the iPhone 4 with the glass back, as without a case it easily slips off a surface, or lap, or car seat, and regularly clatters to the ground. The case was not as slippy, and gave some protection - it even sacrificed itself this last week...so I shall have to purchase another.

Now, I am not wanting to downplay the dreadful situation in Japan. The massive 9.0 Earthquake has wreaked havoc over vast areas in Japan. Many, many people have died, and the ramifications & lessons learned will go on for years ahead.

Mathematics. It is a simple form of logic. It is the basis of our society, everything comes down to the logical steps of 1+1=2. Simple.

Disgusted...

I have posted several blogs recently about how Web 2.0 has been so effective in tracking some of the major news events of 2011.  Whether it be civil uprisings in Libya, or the Christchurch earthquake, there have been a myriad of different things to use...and, aside from the obvious tragedies happening, I was feeling very positive with how Web 2.0 can help to bring us all together, support democracy, empathise with people on the other side of the world...  Hopefully making it more likely we would do something to help...even if only make a donation.

Then the horrific disaster that is unfolding in Japan with the huge offshore earthquake - 8.9 is massive.  I had been using different programs and news services to track the disaster.

Then I caught this...this is a collection of statuses (stati?) from FaceBook.  I cannot describe the revulsion that I feel for every single one of these messages...  I have put the link at the bottom of my post, as looking at it may put you off your entire day...

There is something about this photo that just makes me smile all the time...  I think I may get a T shirt made with it on...

Hopefully this might give at least one other person a smile on Monday morning...
