Wirelesss communications is great. Howver we always want to make sure that it is the best it can be and as wwe move further away from the wireless router the signal drops.
Extending the range is an option and in one post I read recently they wanted to do it with a Netgear DGN2200M. The problem is that if you do that you lose out on the better security that WPS-PSK(TKIP), WPA2-PSK (AES), and WPS-PSK(TKIP) + WPA2-PSK (AES) provides.
Not a good option.
Better option would be to put in a proper extender such as a tp-Link range extender.
Wireless is great and while we don\'t miss the wiring we do have to be more careful on the security

There could be a lot of reasons for this as evidenced in a recent post. The replies mostly centered on it is possibly congested exchanges which of course can happen.
However if you are getting slow response at consistent times of the day or week then in my opinion congested exchanges may not be the problem.
Some other areas to check are you updating Windows automatically. I have heard but not had it from them themselves, that Microsoft releases regular updates around midnight on a Monday PST which makes for slow internet on a Tuesday afternoon as individuals and organisations alike get hold of the updates.
Check if you are doing automatic updates and consider changing it to automatic notification and manual installation at a time that suits you.
Do the same for your anti virus updates as well
You should also check if you are on an uncapped contract to see if you have exceeded the Fair Usage Policy and the ISP is throttling you. I had that at home with my ISP. Terrible response between 7am at 7pm but good speeds between 7pm and 7am. Sometimes we should look at what we are doing before blaming someone else.

Not everything is plug and play and when it comes to routers and wireless hotspots this is very true.
A recent forum I was on had someone trying to configure a hotspot on a RB751U-2HnD router.
Just googling that name gave me plenty of sites to look at and one of the other forum members had gone so far as to provide a link that showed with pictures each step to take.
The initiator of the thread felt that they had bitten off more than they could chew which as a consumer may be true. However the steps were very clear and looked easy to follow.
I also did some other reading on the site and it also provided a lot of information but it was quite technical.
I give a vote of thanks to the person that took the time to take the screen shots to make it easier to follow but sometimes we have to accept that if we are going to set up some networks we will have to do some homework before hand.
Alternatively you have to call in the experts to set it up. If someone wants to set up a wireless hotspot on a RB751U-2HnD [url=http://wiki.mikrotik.com/wiki/Hotspot_server_setup]here is how to do it
Google\'s Nexus 7 tablet is especially great for enjoying high definition videos. Do you want to transfer your TOD videos shot by JVC Everio Camcorder to Nexus 7 for playback in a vivid and smooth way? This video tutorial will show you how to convert TOD to Nexus 7 in details.
Due to rights reasons, TOD format is not supported by most devices including Nexus 7. When you transfer the TOD files from your JVC Everio Camcorder to Nexus 7, you will find the videos can not be played at all. Why not try to convert TOD to MP4 format? Google Play can play MP4 videos without any problem.

Smartphones are great especially when connected to wireless but running them out in the mobile world on 3G or whatever you can get can see a horrific use of cellular data by the phone without the owner even knowing about it.
A recent post I read highlighted the problem An upgrade to an iPhone 4S with a data contract starting the following month meant they needed to buy a 100MB data bundle to see them through the month. Imagine their shock horror when they found they had used 37MB in one day without really using the data on the phone.
They had since loaded Onavo software on the phone and asked will it help.
On closer investigation Onavo does tell you which apps are using data. I loaded it onto my HTC Wildwire to try it out and I can tell you now it is not getting removed.
It showed that the even the battery measuring app is communicating with cellular data.
It did allow me to change the options of the app to allow it to only use wireless communications.
Anywho if you have a mounting data bill for doing nothing this is one app that you should seriously look at.

I came across a query from someone who believes that the PCB on his hard drive is faulty and he was looking for a way to replace it.
The drive is still under warranty so in theory he should be able to get a replacement drive. However in getting the replacement he is in all likelihood going to lose the data on the drive which he didn\'t want to do.
Hence the reason for his search fro a replacement PCB. Can\'t fault the logic there but I do wonder if he should have thought about it more and done a backup of his data more frequently.
Anywho if he replaces the PCB and then claims on the warranty, the warranty is likely to be void.
Another person also commented that if the PCB is blown then it is likely to be caused by wrong voltages on the drive from the power supply and that will also void the warranty.
Morals of the story: make sure the correct voltages are supplied to every component and if not sure check and check again and of course do make a backup.
Going through many of the posts on the forums I frequent a very common recurring problem is speed.
People are reporting that they get inconsistent responses from sites that they visit frequently.
Some post results of speed tests and router settings in the hope that it is something that can be quickly fixed.
Uncapped ISP contracts are the frequent people that complain.
What is important to remember is that uncapped means that you are not restricted to a set amount of data but have an unlimited access to it. However in the contract is what is called a fair usage policy or FUP. This is intended to limit the amount that people can hog the connection.
So if you are downloading a lot of movies and music the ISP is going to detect a high and steady bandwidth consumption. Use more than what they believe is appropriate and they start to throttle you by reducing the speed allowed.
They may reduce connection speed to international sites and leave local sites untouched as the international bandwidth does cost more.
Anywho before blaming the physical connection it might be a good idea to reflect on what you have been using the internet for in the past month.
A conversation with your ISP can also confirm if you have been restricted or not.
