The Tour de France is arguably one of the toughest cycle races known to man. The rolling hills, the high mountains & the endless plains provide millions of viewers with thrilling road racing every year. The 99th edition of the race kicked off on the 30th of June and saw 18 teams & more than 200 riders battle it out for the coveted yellow jersey.

This iconic race was first staged in France in 1903 and covers a staggering average of 3600 km’s over the course of three weeks. The first race was born out of a rivalry between two French sporting newspapers, both stuck in a bid to outsell each other, and attracted between 60 – 80 entrants none of whom were professional cyclists. Since then however, Le Tour has gone on to capture the imagination of millions of enthusiasts worldwide.

Way back in 1990, as a stay-at-home-mom raising kids, I studied from home through Buyers Network Unlimited, one of the biggest Multi Level Marketing networks in SA and I obtained a Diploma in MLM.  At the time it seemed like an exellent opportunity for masses of people, from all walks of of life, to earn an extra income parttime or fulltime. The rewards depending on the effort you would be willing and able to put into the project, setting your own goals, etc.

Writing on a site entitled "My Digital Life", I'll assume that everyone has an interest in technology to some extend, and most will have smartphones, tablets, notebooks and the like lying around at home. I also assume that many of us are music lovers, and have music libraries worth quite a few days' listening. iTunes is probably in there, if not your primary choice, and with wireless syncing, it makes it a lot easier to manage music throughout your home. And then they leveled up. Enter Airplay..

As much as I love tech and blogging, I recently had a conversation with my lecturer wondering where I could go as a new media journalist and actually use all my skills and follow my interests.

So often digital journalism relates to IT-related topics or tech watch. But why do I, someone who loves tech and gaming, not want to commit myself to writing about these?

I have a passionate love affair with books. Walking into a bookshop is my kind of Heaven. One of my dreams in life is to open a bookshop with an attached coffeeshop. The greatest gift I could be given is a book. From a very young age both my parents encouraged reading and always bought us books as kids. I often dream of having a library or a reading room in my own home filled with books I have collected over time, my own little Shangrila.

This year has been the most emotional year of my life . Losing my Dad on New Years morning was such a tremendous loss to my family , we are still coming to terms with this tragedy . On Sunday 1st July  another heart breaking tragedy occured in my family with my 16year old cousin in London committing suicide . I feel as if another part of my heart has died. There are no words to describe the feeling of the heart . I found this quote which sums up what i feel " Tears are the words the heart can not express".
