Load-Shedding And Vista
Yesterday we had it twice, the day before also. Does everyone experience it twice a day? I'm gonna get a flask ready and hopefully one day a generator.
Luckily I managed to install Windows Vista last night... my Windows XP was riddled with fragmented installation scraps that ultimately slowed down the OS. I SHIFT+DELETED that windows.old and the 'Program Files' after backing up the 'Documents and Settings' and Outlook PST's.
Didn't format my partitions either :( Got all my precious data on the other partition. Got some serious backing-up to do.
The install was easy from within XP. I did not have the Vista disk in the drive but instead had an ISO of it mounted on a virtual drive in Daemon Tools (in XP). Vista copied the installation files, rebooted and voila, set itself up. Enough time to get me a decent Linux and dual-boot it with XP. I only installed Vista to test it out and for a quick fix because my XP is away from home. I use 'XP Lite' as it is a bare minimum version with laggy features turned off by default.
At first glance and after playing with the clickables, I gather Vista is just another XP with added bubbliness. It's like a new manifest that could probably be achieved with an application on XP like Windows Blinds or StyleXP. Certain features are easier to use, some are just fancied-up. I will learn more about it as the days go by.
Time to whip out my games and test/play as much as I can before the power-out!
