Check out Harry Sagara’s hilarious take on how the mobile phone has affected Ugandan lives and what motivates mobile operators.
To give you a hint, Harry says he listened to a doctor friend dictate a medical procedure to a junior by mobile phone. ‘That is the pancreas,” the friend shouted. I have to wonder if the junior was planning to cut the patient's pancreas off?
Then there’s the email from Harry's love: “Dear Richard, I couldn’t call you because MTN disconnected my phone for not paying my bills, I wanted to pay it but it was more than double my house rent. Those 5-hour calls aren’t cheap, I tried to get a job but I am not a Munyankole! I am really sorry about this. All my love, Stephanie.”
The column was published on Uganda's The Sunday Monitor.
