His name is Vincent Makeleni, a young fellow who happens to be my brother. I met him last year I think. Beautiful soul. We started talking about our love for Hip-Hop and how we got introduced to it. Our favourite icons in all genres. Then we talked about us.
Each one secretly edging the other on to do an impromptu perfomance. He was good, still is. He beat me hands down with this voice of his. I was amazed at how he can be so deep voiced and still reach high notes which I only ever dream about.
He was funny too. Smart young fellow with a dream and a mission to get there. I suppose much like me he is the 'healer of souls'.
Yesterday I was going through the HUWAEI u8860 on my hands at the moment searching for songs I have and all of them weren't hitting the 'right' cords. I missed his voice.
Today, I log on and I find that he has posted a few songs on Youtube. I wanna share them with you, to give you a taste of what we do back home.
But before I do that, I wanna tell you why I'm sharing : I have a gripe with the fact that artist/ musicians cannot make it (financially) back home. I have a gripe with the fact that getting to Joburg seems to be about the only way to get discovered. I have a gripe with the fact that art is seen as something one uses to amuse themselves. I have a gripe with the fact that artist, particularly, at home are not taken seriously. I have a gripe with the notion that art breeds porverty and should you choose to live your art you are destined for doom, apparently.
Anyway, let me share these two videos with the hope that you will be as blown away as I was by this guy's melody, voice, style and sound.
