Spice Goddess 10 : Books VS Kindles
I have a passionate love affair with books. Walking into a bookshop is my kind of Heaven. One of my dreams in life is to open a bookshop with an attached coffeeshop. The greatest gift I could be given is a book. From a very young age both my parents encouraged reading and always bought us books as kids. I often dream of having a library or a reading room in my own home filled with books I have collected over time, my own little Shangrila.
The smell of a new book is intoxicating and turning crisp clean pages a big turn on . So last night in a Tweet converstion with a friend and MC about the much acclaimed Fifty Shades of Grey Trilogy , we were both told why are we not using Kindle or an E-reader. My response was about the smell and clean crisp pages to which I was told Kindle is a crisp clean page everytime . I further prompted MC about his reasoning to which he replied he just wants people to stop chopping trees. So this got me thinking about books vs Kindle , well the merits included being able to carry around a ton of books at the same time without adding to the weight of my already heavy handbag, buying books immediately (bank balance beware), not been embaressed to buy books like Fifty Shades of Grey,books never out of stock (Onion Tears/Holy Cow), saving our environment to leave a legacy for our children are just some of the positives about switching over . Now for the cons I personally love the feel of a new book , the smell , the passing of books onto others, personal inscriptions inside books, walking into a book shop to browse, the reading of bedtime stories ......
This topic has really got me thinking since last night so thank you MC. So I guess I need to try out the kindle /E-reader/iPad as a carrier for my books. Come to think of it in Fifty Shades of Grey , Christian gives Ana an iPad will a downloaded library of classic books (how romantic !) , several of his playlists and photos of them together. I would so love a man to do that for me :)
In the UK last year several libraries closed down ,was this the cause of digi media taking over. I love books , but I love technology too so hence I am sitting on the fence with this one until I try one of the many digital forms of reading.So if anyone is wanting to help me figure this one out feel free to buy/give me any of the abovementioned digital items so that I could be swayed to think and act more green about my future book choices. Ciao for now my techno loving friends..........

hopefully i will convert .........
The whole green factor is very important I do agree as I do recycle.However the thought of not waking up to find a pile of books on my nightstand or a book in my bed is going to be a bit weird. As a current Masters student I appreciate the digital copies of articles and research rather than print them out , cause i defo would not have any space for the billion emails sent by my supervisor.So lets see what happens and if i will be fully converted 
Paperless is an euphamism
I cannot see a paperless society for the foreseeable future - maybe incertain parts of the western societies but not as a whole. The concept has been around since the first PC made its presence felt.
Kindle type devices are a boon to any reader but a book remains warm, friendly and desirous to hold.
Hiding behind the 'save the trees' does not hold much water for paper-producing-trees are planted like vegetables in a sustainable way. And anyway trees are not the only way the earth gets its oxygen: "According to NASA, phytoplankton produces between 50% and 90% of all the oxygen in the air that we breathe, depending on the seasons, most sources say 50% . The other part is produced by green plants; the rainforests provide 20-30% of the world’s oxygen."
"70 percent to 80 percent of all the oxygen we breathe comes from algae! Without them we would really be sucking wind, but not for long!
What about the trees and other land plants? Trees and other land plants are very important, no doubt about it. But for pure survival, we couldn’t make it without algae."

i can relate to your love of books, but thank goodness im now fully digitally converted and almost cannot remember when last i tucked in with a real book at night. We move forward to a paperless society. in the future years, Paper usage will drop like nobody's business.I for one, can now breathe easier ..... less forests destroyed!
