So, if you are playing Battlefield 3 on your so called gaming PC, odds are you might have come across the Windows pop-up "Do you want to change the color scheme to improve performance?"

Once again, this is all thanks to the Frostbite engine powering Battlefield. As already mentioned in my previous blog (Unable to maximize Battlefield 3), it is causing all kinds of problems. To be honest, it is not entirely Frostbite’s fault; it’s your PC’s as well. Due to you graphics card running out of RAM, Frostbite slaps Windows in the face and Windows throws this popup.
So here is the solution:

This will in result in Battlefield 3 always changing your Windows colour scheme to basic, saving you some RAM. Since it is now in the lowest setting, Windows won’t ask you if you want to lower it either. Win-win if you ask me. But don’t worry; Battlefield will change it back when it is done. Sometimes this may take up to two minutes for some reason.
NOTE: This might not be the only solution. There might be several more out there, but this one worked for me.
NOTE 2: This might help for any GPU Ram intensive application.
Enjoy Battlefield 3!!

You should be able to follow the exact same process to modify your specific application to switch Windows Color Scheme to basic on start-up.
So here is the solution:
Locate your Battlefield 3 root directory. If you are unsure, check your Origin settings for the ‘Game install location’. It should be in “C:/Program Files/Origin games/” or “C:/Program Files(x86)/Origin games/” if you are running Windows 7 x64.
Right click on ‘bf3.exe’
Go to the ‘Compatibility’ tab
Tick ‘Disable Desktop Composition’
