Please help me. Facebook have bought Instagram. Should I care? I went to download the app to see what the fuss was all about and discovered that I had already downloaded it some time ago. I either never tried it or wasn't impressed I can't remember which.
My understanding of Instagram is that you can take a photo, mess with it and then upload it to your favourite social network. If I am correct then I can already do that. I might have to use two different apps to do it, but I think I can do that just as well if not better.
The fact that Facebook was prepared to pay $1 billion says that I am obviously missing something. If I am please help me understand.
What I find incredible is all the speculation as to why Facebook have bought it and the suggested machinations to prevent Google from hogging it or Apple doing something sinister. Whatever the reason Facebook consider it a good deal and good luck to them.
What I love about this is that Instagram has only 13 (lucky?) employees and should the purchase price be shared equally among them they stand to get around $77 million each. They must feel that they have won the lottery. No matter what high hopes they had for their little app I am sure they never imagined that this would be the outcome. I have a simple message for those 13 lucky souls. ENJOY!!!
... i am sure that Facebook have some sort of objective here, but I cannot see them forcing the issue with how people share their photos. If Facebook spoil the Instagram experience the users will just find something else.
Instagram
I think you're missing the point. It's all part of Facebook wanting control over where people upload photos online. It's not about Instagram itself. They probably wish they could buy Flickr.
I hate that Facebook bought Instagram, apart from "cheapening" it, we all know their history and how we can't trust them. They're probably gonna mess up our smooth experience with Instagram now.
