Dear myDL Authors,

We have some really great news for you! After our recent site revamp, which saw a significant and long-overdue upgrade to the blogging platform, some more amazing changes are afoot at My Digital Life.

From April 1st, 2012, you will be paid 40c per South African hit you receive on all of the original blog posts you write with a technological and digital slant. That’s right, you’re getting a raise! And a significant one too: it’s double the amount that you are currently earning! And no, this is no April Fool’s joke. So come on! Get writing and earning. We want to hear about those apps, your phones, those gadgets you covet, your social networking activities, the games that you love, the tech that blows your mind…

This new payment structure will first be implemented on a three-month trial basis. If it leads to more blogging, local readership and site growth, the increase could be extended, perhaps even indefinitely! So spread the word, get blogging and get your friends and family in South Africa to hit on your blogs so that you can rake in those DigiRands.

We giveth, we taketh away, but then we giveth some more

The other change is that bloggers will no longer earn anything for opinion blogs about non-digital related topics. The main reason for this is that we would like to emphasise the importance of digital blog posts. After all, the site IS called My DIGITAL Life. For those of you who still feel the need to wax lyrical about the antics of your dog/cat/significant other or rant about politicians, you’ll still be able to do that. The opinion section will now be combined with the non-paid for Lifestyle division and grouped into a category called “General Blogs”. Another change is that bloggers and site members will not earn 2 cents for offering their 2 cents’ worth in the comments section of blog posts and articles anymore.

BONUS

During this 40c-per-hit trial period, our monthly Click-A-Lot Day will fall away. On this day, which fell on the first Wednesday of every month, Authors used to receive triple pay per local hit received on any blog for that 24-hour period. During this three month trial, Click-A-Lot Day will be replaced by “Top Earner”. The blogger who receives the most local hits on their posts in a month will receive a bonus of R500 in addition to their earnings for that particular month.

So, are you ready to rake in those DigiRands yet? Then get scribbling!

Wow, wow, WOW!!!! This is such amazing news! My poor family and friends are going to be totally spammed as I pimp all those blog posts that I'm going to write.

International

Is it ever going to be extended to international? Also, something seems off with my hit counter, it has stayed a 496 yet my last few blog posts have had over 100 hits each. Doubt they're all international since all my FB friends are from SA.

Also it's a bummer when a blog post gets tons of attention (i.e. one of my posts has over 900 hits) and you get paid R2 for it. Last few months I've gotten an R8 increase with well over 1000 hits.

Hits

Hi Megg, our advertisers only pay for local hits, so we won't be extending it to international hits.

I've asked our IT department to look into your hits not recording properly and I will let you know what they say.

Thanks

Follow Up

The feedback I received is that the system reads your last blog post as December and thinks you haven't blogged since.

IT are looking into why that is. It seems to be just your account.

Thanks

Thanks for looking into it. Glad to see I'm not just being paranoid. Please let me know when it's resolved or if I need to do anything :)

Digirands

40c, me likes.

I think there's something wrong with my digirands account. I requested money twice (sometime during feb methinks, and sometime last year) and it's still on hold.
