When GlossyBox popped onto my radar with their R130 claim to be “the Rolls Royce” of boxes, I was sceptic. Let’s face it, rubybox prides themselves on luxury offerings and at R30 less fall desperately short of that claim. But it does seem that GlossyBox is on to something.

Chatting with Carey-lee Taylor, GlossyBox’s Marketing Manager, it was clear that this service has big plans ready to roll out. What’s more, they are really set on doing whatever is necessary to keep subscribers happy. They also seem to handle feedback and hiccups much better than some other services and companies.

Still, after receiving a great first box I still had reservations. Afterall, it’s one thing to start off with a bang, it’s another to maintain that momentum and grow your subscriber base. That doesn’t mean you need full-sized product in each box, just that the quantity and quality that you promise is delivered on every single time.

So what did I get inside my March GlossyBox?
1.    Anesi Stem C3 Emulsion
2.    Creative Nail Design Scentations Cucumber Heel Therapy
3.    Dr Hauschka Rejuvenating Mask
4.    Piz Buin Tan Intensifier (2 tubes)
5.    So Pure Hand Sanitiser
6.    Urban Chic Eye Shadow (bubble wrapped against the jostles and hassles of transport)
7.    Beaute Eye Liner Pencil

At first the idea of stem cells freaked me out a bit, but once I read that the product contains plant stem cells sourced from apples I felt a lot better.

Although I’ve not been too keen on tan intensifier, I can see it come in handy when you need to even out tan lines and such. And two tubes give you a little more to work with.

I’m looking forward to trying out these great new products, and hope to write individual reviews on my favourites.

With the beauty and grooming industry showing no indication of slowing down, I think the box service is an excellent way to expose consumers to what’s new, what are the favourites and the dependables, and with the international model that’s a proven success I honestly believe that of the current box services available in South Africa, GlossyBox has clearly distinguished itself as reliable and luxury.
