On Thursday 15 March Media24 Magazines officially launched the first weekly fashion and news magazine in the country, Grazia. The first issue of this global fashion glossy will be on sale on 18 May 2012.

Grazia (Italian for grace) made its debut in Italy in 1938, and this is the twentieth edition internationally. Other editions include France, Germany, UK, China, Thailand, India and Australia, among others.

“In South Africa, we have a powerful force of globally-savvy, in-the-know 30-something women who are eager for an editorial fix that’s more relevant, more up-to-the-minute and more in tune with their ever-changing tastes than a monthly. They’re stylish, inquisitive and glamorous. They’re earning their own money and choosing where to spend it. They read the monthlies, but they want more”, says Grazia South Africa Editor, Danielle Weakley.

“There’s an obvious gap in the market for Grazia,” she says. “It’s packed with fashion, news, celebrities, beauty, lifestyle, real-life reads – all the things we know our readers will love. It boasts the gloss of a fashion magazine with the pace of a news weekly.”The magazine will serve as a shopping guide, with readers taking it in-store to find the items they want. Unlike monthly glossies that has a longer lead time, the trends and news in a weekly publication will be more current and up-to-date. The monthlies still provide trend forecasts – informing consumers in March what to expect style-wise in winter. With Grazia readers will be able to read and buy autumn fashion in the same period. So rather than competing with the market, the new magazine will fit comfortably into a void that has gone unnoticed before.

Offering 96 pages of fashion, trends and news on a weekly basis, Grazia promises to be treat for local fashion lovers.
