The rhythm of the guitar fuels his heartbeat, blood rushing through his body. His body remains calm as he stares out over the office from behind his desk while an internal emotional volcano erupts, ripping him from his chair. His tie comes to rest on the floor behind him, in a few minutes the only remaining evidence of his personal existence, previously bound by corporate walls and politics…..

It’s time.

On an empty bed she sits, the beat of the drums cradles her head in her hands, signalling the explosion in her mind. Behind her tangled blonde hair, her eyes begin to fill with focused determination. She glances over to his side of the bed as her bare feet lands on the ground. In the increasing distance behind her a ring rolls across the floor…..

It’s time.

Alone amongst a playground full of children he stands, while the lyrics shuts out the taunting voice of the bully in front of him. His eyes close and a smile flashes across his lips in anticipation of the freedom about to wash over him. His clothes flutter through the wind in a sweeping motion. Silence. The boy that used to taunt him, lies on the ground, eyes filled with bewildered tears as he watches him walk away.

It’s time.

On top of a mountain stand a man, a woman and a boy. A song fills their ears, unifying them in the knowledge that It’s time, time to say:

“We won’t back down, we won’t run and hide, because these are the things we can’t deny”

Inspired by:
Rise Against – Satellite
You can't feel the heat until you hold your hand over the flame
You have to cross the line just to remember where it lays
You won't know your worth now, son, until you take a hit
And you won't find the beat until you lose yourself in it

That's why we won't back down
We won't run and hide
Yeah, cuz these are the things that we can't deny
I'm passing over you like a satellite
So catch me if I fall
That's why we stick to your game plans and party lines
But at night we're conspiring by candlelight
We are the orphans of the American dreams
So shine your light on me

You can't fill your cup until you empty all it has
You can't understand what lays ahead
If you don't understand the past
You'll never learn to fly now
'Til you're standing at the cliff
And you can't truly love until you've given up on it

That's why we won't back down
We won't run and hide
Yeah, cuz these are the things that we can't deny
I'm passing over you like a satellite
So catch me if I fall
That's why we stick to your game plans and party lines
But at night we're conspiring in my candlelight
We are the orphans of the American dreams
So shine your light on me

She told me that she never could face the world again
So I offer up a plan

We'll sneak out while they sleep
And sail off in the night.
We'll come clean and start over the rest of our lives.
When we're gone we'll stay gone.
Out of sight, out of mind.
It's not too late,
We have the rest of our lives.

We'll sneak out while they sleep
And sail off into the night
We'll come clean and start over the rest of our lives
When we’re gone, we’ll stay gone
Out of sight, out of mind.
It's not too late,
We have the rest of our lives.
The rest of our lives
The rest of our lives

Because we won't back down
We won't run and hide
Yeah cuz these are the things that we can't deny
I'm passing over you like a satellite
So catch me if I fall
That's why we stick to your game plans and party lines
But at night we're conspiring in my candlelight
We are the orphans of the American dreams
So shine your light on me

Because we won't back down
We won't run and hide
Yeah cuz these are the things that we can't deny
I'm passing over you like a satellite
Cuz these are the things that we can't deny now
This is a life that you can't deny us now

WOW!

I LOVE this and I'm absolutely jealous of your writing. You're deadly succinct, yet convey so much with so few words. Wow... I always knew you could write, but wow wow wow. This is so unlike anything I've ever read by you. More please!
