I am thinking about different kinds of phones and what they do since later this year I have to go and upgrade my phone, and to be honest, there is so many phones with different operating systems that you simply cannot just go and get any phone, we as people differ a lot and thus opinions differ, so you cannot really go and ask a friend and be truly satisfied with the product.

I only know a little about three os's that is currently best so I won't mention Nokia further than just saying the two things that I don't like about it : LAG and overpriced.

Windows phones just don't do it for me either, not enough apps, which from this year on also include some nokia phones i.e. Lumia 800.

I am only in the market for a smartphone, so the three operating systems to look at is: Android, IOS and Blackberry, all three these os's are pretty good in their own way, and a lot of people from hereon forth will not agree with me at all.

First on my list is, in my opinion the best of them all; Android, the little green robot that I fell in love with since working on it the first time in 2010. It is good with games, office apps, and since I have a gmail account with picasa, youtube, ag the list goes on and on. Problem is that there is so many Android phones that choice becomes very difficult and you have to know what the insides should be like for what you do, for instance the stuff I do would be more cpu intensive, so I would have to use something more or less in the Samsung Galaxy Sii class, note that the SGSii is last year's model, but it was smartphone of the year.

Second on my list of good Phones would be the Iphone4 / 4s. What can I say,it used to be the very best of the best, and according to many people, still is. Iphone is very good, don't get me wrong, but I like my freedom a lot thank you very much. I like to be able to fully customize my phone and the Iphone won't give me that unless I jailbreak it and lose my warranty, and still I won't have true freedom to do as I like on it, Android gives me all that and more.

Last one up is Blackberry, currently the top OS in S.A. and my least favorite of all, I would prefer even a Nokia over a Blackberry anytime, but I had to include it because it is an option because of blackberry messenger, what I hate about it is the fact that it lags when I use it, don't know why, probably because I am a power user and I let almost any phone lag when I work with it. Blackberry is a good messenger, but let's all be honest here, it won't be any good without BIS( Blackberry Internet Services). There has been plenty of rumours that RIM, the makers of Blackberry are on the verge of bancruptcy, go look it up on the net, it's there. My question what happens to all the Blackberry users once RIM shuts down. No RIM = same problems as in October 2011.

Most people will see that I compared most things with android, and I sure did. Let's be realistic, Steve Jobs, the genius responsible for Apple's success is no more, he was one of the biggest innovators ever. And RIM is on the verge of Bankruptcy. What will you prefer? All three are first in its own class, but one OS is my favorite.

Hi and welcome to MyDL! I'm glad I visited your blog again, because I couldn't read it yesterday with no paragraphs! :D

My mobile OS preference is iOS 8)

You say BlackBerry is the top OS in South Africa. Do you have a link/reference for that?

Thanks

hi Vortex,

interesting read, im my opinion, have the best of both worlds, Blackberry ( emails, BBM - cheap Data) and then have the ipad, (applications, userfriendly) you cannot compare Apples with berries ;D if you get my drift, but can have the best of both worlds.

I have the Ipad, enjoy it, and i love my Blackberry Torch and playbook.

BTW, Im in the cellular market and 53% of our current base is Blackberry users. So you are kinda Spot on!;)

Thank you again!

It is quite good to have the best of both worlds, I totally agree.

Question then would be, what would your choice be for an all rounder if you have to choose between those two?

Nowadays the problem is though, you only have the best this month, next month something else is tops.

Coming to tablets though, iPad still is king, even a die hard phandroid like me has to admit that

Hey Vortex.....

I'm a blackberry girl, because I can break and make, I lose components very often , and you will find screws laying around, friends of mine have challenged modding to a different level, increasing the CPU and doing other crazy things, more opportunity to mod a blackberry than jailbreak and iPhone, so for now, I will re,aim true to blackberry.

And keep iPad in my handbag( I text you from the docs office ATM) and I am still very happy.

I will be posing soon comparison on devices and also sharing new devices launched , compared to the iPhone, minus siri, the 9810 looks promising.

GTG, doc await me>:(

THanks for the article. I am looking at a smartphone upgrade at the moment and this was really helpful as I had been thinking the same way you had, Android and a Samsung
