Has any one else ever noticed that when a country has the word “Republic” or “Democratic” is anything but that!?
Definition of a Republic: A state in which the sovereign power resides in the whole body of the people, and is exercised by representatives elected by them; a commonwealth
Definition of Democracy: Government of the people, by the people, for the people
For instance when South Africa was known as the “Republic of South Africa”, we had the “Appartheid”. Or the Democratic Republic of the Congo is run by a War Lord. Or The Peoples Republic of China is anything but a country run by the people.
Perhaps the dictionaries should change the meaning of these words. Or even better the leaders of these countries should take heed of their people’s needs and wishes and actually become what they claim to be.
It is sad that most countries are run by Dictators. Here we are supposedly living in a 'Free World' or 'Modern Society' yet 90% of the worlds population lives in fear of their freedom (never mind lives!). Great Quote![]()
I never understood how after WW2 that Germany was split into sectors... the American Sector, the Russian Sector, the British Sector, the French Sector... which eventually became two 'Sectors' East and West Germany! Bloody Commies...>![]()
I agree. Those in power have changed the reserved word meanings to fit into their perceivement of what they are trying to achieve (control.)
If one reads up on both those words and their application, one quickly realises that each application of the words has many permutations and deviations i.e. liberal democracy with positive precepts.
