Since Apple introduced their iPad, everyone who is anyone is trying to jump on the tablet wagon.
Today I learned that my favourite company, RIM (BlackBerry), is also planning to saddle up the horses and enter this market. Dubbed the BlackPad by fans, the tablet is set to be launched in 2011 with some rumouring that the US might even see it in the fourth quarter of 2010.
Personally I would not get it. I simply do not se why it would appeal to me even though I am a keen BlackBerry supporter. In fact, I share this feeling towards all tablets.
I can see the value in a tablet when it comes to the service industry.
At McDonalds they have these funky touch screen devices to take orders when you are sitting in the drive-thru. It is fast and convenient. I can also see the value when a waiter has one in a restaurant for taking orders. You simply load it with images of the different dishes and should a customer want to see what a dish looks like you can quickly show it to him. It would be a great sales tool.
Aside from those simple examples, I find a tablet as useful as a touch screen phone. It is simply just begging for its first scratch... and then loses its glam.
