Intel and Cisco Systems have formed a partnership to improve wireless and security solutions for businesses. The collaboration was announced at the Intel Developers` Forum in San Francisco yesterday. advertisement The alliance aims to deliver new capabilities that enhance the reliability of wireless LANs and allow enterprises to utilise their hardware and networks as a combined defence against security threats.Intel Mobility Group VP and GM Sean Maloney said companies increasingly lean on computing and network infrastructure to improve the way they conduct business. He told delegates that the two companies have jointly produced a new set of features, the Business Class Wireless Suite, designed for companies using Cisco`s Unified Wireless Architecture and Intel Centrino mobile technology. The product is a set of capabilities that makes wireless LANs more robust, supporting enhanced roaming and business applications such as voice over Internet Protocol (VOIP), he said.Maloney said the suite includes optimal access point (AP) selection technology to enable Intel Centrino mobile technology-based clients to scan for the best AP for faster, more reliable and efficient roaming within a business wireless LAN.It also provides enhanced VOIP quality of service technology to improve audio clarity and enable reliable voice communications for laptops, he added.A huge demand for wireless technology has developed within the consumer sector, which calls for the development of a solution that fulfils both consumer and business performance needs, he noted. The Business Class Wireless Suite will be available in the first quarter of 2006.In terms of security solutions, Intel will join Cisco`s Network Admission Control programme, which helps customers identify, prevent and adapt to security threats, while Cisco will join the Intel Active Management Technology (AMT) programme.Intel AMT is part of Intel`s Digital Office initiative that aims to provide capabilities to make new levels of IT manageability possible.
