Why you and I don’t vote: My Theory....
Yo everybody, some quick updates on the OS's life. Started the new job, I think I already said that? In a different Business Unit with different people with different pay with different benefits and a different vibe. I thank the Lord for this, I really wanted to get out of our IT department as so many things that were right just went wrong over the last couple of months. I'm still in IT, but a more senior role and it has to do with manufacturing...the systems and applications that control the manufacturing of the palets that we export to China and other countries...I manage these things now, make sure the business has sufficient capabilities to increase production and be safe at the same time by providing them with various systems. I quite like it, I can excell here!
We are looking at buying a house here in Secunda towards the end of the year, oh yes, I was supposed to work in Bryanston, but we decided against it. I'm also slowely but surely starting to move away from fast cars, yes I still have my fast car, but a recent spate of high speed accidents here leaving people in ICU has made me stop and rethink this robot to robot racing where ever I go. Considering selling the REVO 2 GTi...for something faster, for the track!
My wife and daughter(s) are doing vry well, at 7 months now Karli is already crawling very fast and now practicing her standing...she does not like the fact that she cannot stand on her own and she absolutely hates the fact that she needs to stand up against the couch or our legs etc. In about 2 weeks we'll see the sex of our 2ncd child, but we saw some evidence the last time we were there, but the doc didnt' want to tell us the sex too early, but we saw the same evidence as with Karli...so this will be a Danika.
Other than that, our faith in God is growing every week, we read much more Bible then we did last year, as they say, the truth is there...I see that MyDL is still going strong, I just can't come on here that much anymore, with much more responsibility given to me in my new job...
The OS is over and out - keep up the good work on the site, I love the newsletters and I see the competitions are not just being won by me anymore, lol!
Hi again. Its been about a month and a half since I blogged! It seems every time its just an update of what’s been happening in my life, or as its so affluently known, “The life and times of the Giken” While I’ve been gone I’ve been thinking of blogging every time, but never have the time to actually do it....
It's shocking to see how many students want to study further...its almost as if it's the grade 13 they've been waiting for 12 years now, a sort of natural progression in Education. I know of plenty students who cannot go further their studies because of the main reason people want to study...money.
Money is and always was an object. But this is where I don't understand the dilemma so many students with good grades are faced with...don't they know about bursaries? The government makes it a huge conference when they announce how much they will spend on education this year, millions. But somehow I don't see that money trickle down to students in the form of bursaries...or do students just not go and apply?
Is there corruption in awarding bursaries just like there is in awarding tenders and, for that matter, Grammy's? Yes, there is, was and always will be corruption in anything! But don't these corrupt people know that they are negatively affecting someone's livelihood? These students who cannot go to varsity...they'll have to go do odd jobs in order to sustain a living, they'll live with their parents and then before they know it they're 30 years old and the world has forgotten about them. Will something like a free education ever exist? Yes, we get huge subsidies for University studies which the government pays for that's how your R30 000 degree went down from R60 000, its actual worth.
I hope our youth can take the bull by the horns and really take their futures into their own hands...millions of rands go unspent because students simply do not apply for bursaries, each and every government department has bursaries available for that specific field...police, forensics, medical, law, media etc, all have bursaries that students must go and apply for in order to get money to study...do you think students know this? Do you think students care to take the initiative to go and get that money? I don't.
Twitter - possibly the best description for anyone trying to front out a WEB 3.0 analogy.
Blogging - the epitome of WEB 2.0 (interaction, integration of web content, video, links, photo's etc.)
The Twittification of Blogging has begun, my false exit from blogging is testament alone, even people like The Source is a great example. FB and Twitter see's more action from this man's fingers than a blog does, and I have the same excuse too...no time. But time has never been the problem. Twitter and FaceBook are taking over true forms of blogging, where writing and skill is actually required. A Tweet or a Status update can say in 10 seconds what a blog must try to say in 5-10 minutes at least.
Usually we used to see blogs about some interesting happening in the news, be it IT related or not, now, we get a link on our Twitter and FB feeds and we read the real article, eliminating the 2cnd and even 3rd hand information distortion! If blogging can be successfully migrated to mobile, and I mean successfully, it can still rival the feeds you recieve every 5 minutes or so.
But that's the problem, the delivery, the medium by which this is brought forth...the mobile, the BlackBerry's and the iPhone's...Blogging, 80% of the time requires you to be in front of a stationary PC. Whereas Twitter and FB is on the go, real-time as they like to call it.
Its sad really, but die hard bloggers will always return to their, now defunct PC's and go balls to the wall and churn out some really good content, we've all read good blogs and just sat bag in amazement after we've read it, and really hoped for more of these, these soon to be fossilized means of conversation entertainment.
With the advent of tablets and iPads etc making a welcome introduction or as some would argue, "return" to the industry, the on the go'ness factor the mobile had over the PC resulting in less blogs is now a thing of the past, blogging can still take place, albeit for a much smaller audience.
I rely on Twitter to give me up to date, real time information on my interests, I rely on FB to share my quick-views with my friends and family, however, I rely on blogs, from diverse sources to keep me informed, keep me thinking, and keep me wondering about topics I've yet to discover...
Keep blogging alive, and it will be here when it snows in the summer!
OS over and out!
I've been on Twitter for a minute now, and I'm following a diverse group of people, from sports stars to Hip Hop heads to IT crowd guys...and @StaffordMassie posted something very intriguing. He posted an article that peered into the uselessness of Google...It read's something like this:
Google is also a synonym for 666.
Google is taking over everyone's lives.
Google only gives SEO'd searches, which can sometimes be useless.
in Google's defense, it's a business, the US of A has a bad habbit of expecting companies that rake in billions to all of a sudden ad a sympathy clause to its mandate! They say Google has become useless because of the search results that it feeds...these results are 90% of the time results that have nothing to do with the topic or it has added advertisments that really just take up your time and your money...in data...
Google has helped me through varsity and for that alone I will happily be a Google fiend till the end of time, which is next year if we go by the Mayan calander and folklore-galore! SEOing has nothing to do with Google...you put a couple good words in your opperation (search "Top 10 SEO words") and you'll be on the top 5 search results in no time...ok its not that easy but you get the jist (another word I've learnt while being on my sebatical, also another new word I've learnt).
In short, no, or a resounding, hell no Stafford, Google will and cannot be useless, never, everyone who's everyone in this world uses Google on the daily subconciously, everyone, when wanting information, uses Google, the people wanting and the people feeding information, all of them use Google to interact and exchange this information!
FaceBook and Twitter are social mediums for people to keep tabs on one another's doings, Twitter has evolved to a on the go news channel...but it will never really out-do Google...Its just one of those, say something bad about Google topics that just got alot of people thinking, thinking and thinking and then all of them or us or we made our minds up and said, heck no, we need Google, even with its adverts, we still need it!
On the otherhand, what the hell is going on with YouTube and its involuntary adverts playing in your screen?
OS over and out...Google, love it or hate it, you all know you need it!
Well since the last time I told all about the happenings at work, I’ve moved job, moved boss, and almost moved city! Yes, I’m on a huge project that’s in JHB and my new role is in JHB…so I’m in JHB 3-4 times a week! Needless to say, I don’t sleep over as wifey and baby is all alone at home, so I drive up and down 340kms a day!...
1st, they made my eFilling experience a complete nightmare! Its supposed to be easy, I’m completely new to this and I consider myself a fairly quick learner, but when I went through that eFiling assist it really did not make sense. I think it has to do with the IRP5’s and what it all means! I was very perplexed by the codes, and the meaning of interest etc…I eventually had someone, a tax practitioner help me out....
