It all started on a whim; something to the tune of “why not. What have we got to lose?” Then the fateful call from DSTVs marketing department a few weeks later changed all the acuities and made the anticipation a reality. As a matter of fact, being speechless and totally gobsmacked comes to mind.

The above is not even counting the comments, mostly intolerant ones, posted in response to the viral postings across the various social media channels.

My response to that headline is: ja right!

The concept of democracy, in the global sense, is much desired, but the underlying undercurrent behind the tenet of democracy - two wolves and a sheep deciding on what’s for dinner - is not a sobering thought. But, given that democracy is bashed around like a tennis ball at a tennis tournament, surely there must be more to the idea than that what meets the eye?

We live in a world where failure is seen as the ultimate sin; something to be despised ridiculed and derided. Something to be avoided deflected and blamed on someone else.
