Yesterday morning, i woke up, stretched, reached for my light to turn it on, but it wouldn't due to load shedding again, after it had been out the night before too.  (It was off in the evening and this morning too).  But anyway, enough complaining about that.  There's something that did get to me though.  I was walking across the road, to the bus stop, and the robots were out.  I live around the corner from two primary schools.  Most of the children get dropped off across the road and have to cross the intersection to get to school.  I crossed the road, and am used to dodging traffic (I don't think they see pedestrians) and was fine.  What got to me, was the 5 year old crossing the opposite direction, who almost got knocked over.  It was her right of way, and someone hooted, and she ran, and nearly got run over.  She just made it next to the pavement.

Saturday the 1st December 2007, World AIDS Day, was the most memorable day of my life.   Johannesburg hosted the 46664 concert.  I thought that the amazing line up of bands would be my highlight for the evening, surprisingly, they weren’t.  I wasn’t going to go originally.  I was tired, lazy, but something told my soul, I had to go.  First, I was going to get block seat tickets, but then I realized – I would go CRAZY sitting on a chair from 14:00 until 23:30.  So we got field standing, much cozier.  To avoid traffic, and congestion, we left early, went shopping and got to Ellis Park before 13:00 – actually before twelve.  We were the first people on the field!  We took our bands and started looking for a place to settle down, when Pabi said to me, “We’ve been given Golden Circle bands”.  We burst out laughing, and kept walking, and set up right in front of the stage.

I was angry, the whole week was not going my way.  On Friday, couldn't decide what i wanted to do, to calm down from my week.  We had just finished our Christmas party, I won't lie, i was tipsy.  I was running through the shops getting groceries, and being silly and buying other things including Jake White's autobiography "In Black and White".  I got home, and considered doing my usual 'calm down from the week' routine.  Grabbing the closest couch and watching tv.  I looked across the garden at the pool, i hadn't swum this summer yet, and ran upstairs, put my costume on, out into the garden, and then after a pause (because the water was freezing) i jumped in the pool.

1.  Hire an excellent coach, have GREAT marketing, involve the whole country, to a degree that there is no biltong, pap, or boerewors at the butchery on a Saturday.  They sift through their fridges for beer.  They put on their green and gold shirts.

Everyday I see headlines in the newspaper of horific events, that don't shock me. I read the headline, feel ill, and put the paper aside. A few days later, we have a braai and i crumple those headlines into balls of paper, make a fire and cook my meat. Everyone is always harping on about the crime statistics in the country, others hush them, saying how far our nations come. There are talkshows on the radio, where people talk about the last three times they were hijacked, what happened to their eighty six year old neighbour, who's house was broken into, and who was beaten up severly. Those tug heart strings, because we can relate it to someone we know, who had the same experience. But we shrug it off, cringe when we pass the area of the incident, but luckily, we have panic buttons incase something happens.  We make sure we have the best security companies.  We blockade our streets, we have neighbourhood watch.  Electric fences, security guards, camera phones at the gate.  Emergency buttons all over the place.  We even buy battons and other objects to protect ourselves against AK47's.
