Do you remember that great Nandos add during the elections - "We're not right wing or left wing, we're the whole chicken!" I also heard a speaker on the radio the other day that referred to the Women's Party that was part of the plethora of new parties that joined the 1994 band wagon. That party was referred to as a one-issue party.

After last night's vote for Jacob Zuma, how now shall we respond? I like Rethabile Mosh's take on it:

And so we bless the LORD for the outcome still...
We pray for His Grace upon the presidency...
We pray for His direction and counsel into the next elections.
We depend on His righteousness and justice to be executed on behalf of the needy, the poor, the orphan and the widow that live amongst us...
We commit to take up the challenge to pray in faithfully for God's kingdom to come in our nations even the more now..!!!

And so we BLESS THE PRESIDENCY...

Ok, so Jacob Zuma may be heading for the Union Buildings, we’re all learning to live with it and here’s a step in that direction. Tips for Trevor have become an established annual ritual, so I’m starting my own “If I were Zuma” wish list for the nation.

18o, rain, 73% humidity. That was Google’s Joburg forecast for Wednesday 21 November 2007, the day of our second PrayerWatch meeting to pray for South Africa. While the rain hasn’t come yet, the overcast skies certainly added a romantic and ominous presence to the morning air. So at 6am we rushed into the church parking lot, ready to intercede for the nation. One intercessor said that the cars travelling into the church property in a straight line spoke to her of an unflinching purpose, the picture of God’s church like a spearhead set as flint, ready to “give Him no rest” as we cry out for this nation.

My Bok-inspired “I love South Africa” high has swiftly faded thanks to our good old addiction to all that is dark and negative about the country. With the daily flood of crime news, corruption noises and more laws being passed against our wishes, it’s become easy for me to let the waters of doom and gloom sweep me downstream. But I’ve been encouraged today by some other nation builders who are swimming upstream.

The first encouragement came at the end of an email group discussion lamenting the sad state of African leadership. His trumpet call was "What are you doing with the opportunities God has given you, with the resources God has blessed you with, with the experiences you have gained so far. What your you doing to make a DIFFERENCE?.”

My second encouragement came also via email, calling a group of us who belong to a church nation building group to get together to pray for the Nation ahead of the ANC’s conference which will choose the country’s next president, barring any huge surprises. This has spurred me on to put in place an idea I’ve had for a while – PrayerWatch SA. This is an initiative to use the net to get generation X to pray for South Africa. The outworking will be a Facebook group (PrayerWatch SA), email newsletters, blog posts and whatever else.

· To start off this inaugural post, those in Joburg are hereby informed of prayer meetings at His People Joburg on 7th Ave in Parktown North on Wednesday mornings from 6 to 7 am.
· Those who can’t make the meetings, please remember this country in your prayer meetings – pray at your dinner tables, in your cell groups, at coffee shops, wherever, when ever. · Those who aren’t on Facebook and can’t subscribe to my blog, please mail me at This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it to subscribe to prayer requests (put PrayerWatch SA in the subject).
· Pray that the church would rise up in prayer at this critical time, all over the world, let a new generation of watchmen rise up and cover this nation in prayer.

Isaih 62:6-7

6 I have set watchmen upon thy walls, O Jerusalem, [which] shall never hold their peace day nor night: ye that make mention of the LORD, keep not silence,
7 And give him no rest, till he establish, and till he make Jerusalem a praise in the earth.

My wife fails to share my enthusiasm around the Web 2.0. revolution – she doesn’t do blogs, web albums, firefox, MySpace, You Tube, and certainly not Facebook. It even took much persuading to move to gmail. I’ve figured that the only way to get her to read my blogs is to mail them to her, which is just so 20th century! Her view is that I represent the family sufficiently well on the world wide wait – you get the picture.

If I was catholic, one of my many confessions would be – “Father, I have led one of God’s children astray – I introduced him to Facebook.” The child in question posted on my wall “Dude, I’m loving this thing, help me get off, I’m addicted.” The next day he joined the Facebook addict group or application, thereby breaking my first step in my Facebook addiction rehab program:
