It extends beyond viral videos and podcasts to incoporate audio and visual consumption technologies, opportunites across mobile and tablet devices, the advances in smartTv and Digital Migration and the changing formats and intregration of new media.
When YouTube started out we used the video sharing site for entertainment, to watch David riding home from the dentist and Charlie biting fingers. Shortly after this YouTube stars and genera emerged to create the persona I have previously called ‘online video sensations’. But according to a recent article by Weird Magazine, the purpose of YouTube and its use as a publishing tool is changing.

Recently the series Game of Thrones and the American Superbowl have all incorporated aspects of social TV to stimulate user conversation about their programs.
...From interactive advertising to digital migration and internet-connected television sets, the world of broadcast has changed from a passive experience to social interaction. We’ve gone from simple 2D viewing to Full HD screens, PVR recording and 3D display. 2012 is set to see another TV transformation as more consumers opt to buy Smart TVs.
