The Nokia Lumia 900 will arrive in South Africa on June 28, exclusively to the MTN network.
The flagship Lumia smartphone will be available on an MTN Anytime 200 contact at R369pm for 24 months, which includes 75MB of data.
Serame Taukobong, chief marketing officer at MTN SA says, “As an innovative telecommunications provider with a world-class network infrastructure, MTN is well-placed to bring the Lumia 900 smartphone to South Africa.”
As part of a co-marketing agreement with Warner Bros and the upcoming movie The Dark Knight Rises, consumers will be able to get their hands on the limited edition Lumia 900 engraved with the Batman logo.
“By leveraging Nokia’s partnership with the box office hit, The Dark Knight Rises, and co-branded marketing efforts above-the-line, online and in retail, MTN is in a great position to provide a smart network for the Nokia Lumia 900.”
The Lumia 900 features a 4.3-inch AMOLED display; is equipped with Nokia’s highest capacity battery, has an 8MP rear-facing camera with Carl Zeiss optics and a Lumia first – a 1MP front-facing camera for video calling straight out of the box.
The handset offers Nokia’s signature Lumia services such as Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive (free turn-by-turn voice navigation) and Nokia Mix Radio (free music streaming service with access to 14 million tracks; no sign-up required).
Nokia says that the Lumia 900 will offer high-speed web browsing and content streaming, using DC-HSPA technology with download speeds of up to 42Mbps. It is available in either white or black.
Also launching alongside the Lumia 900 is the low-cost Lumia 610, aimed at a younger audience. It offers full social integration (Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn) with quick access to People Hub via Live Tiles on the homescreen.
Gerard Brandjes, VP for Nokia in South East Africa says, “The 610 is Nokia's fourth and most affordable Lumia smartphone, and will help a new group of people experience the impressive social capabilities of the Windows Phone platform. We are building real momentum with Lumia in South Africa, and bringing the range to customers on MTN is another huge step forward for us.”
The handset features a 3.7-inch capacitive touchscreen, a 5MP camera, 8GB storage with Bluetooth and WiFi connectivity. It will also come with Nokia Maps, Nokia Drive and Nokia Mix Radio. It is available in white, cyan, magenta and black.
