The MultiChoice-owned mobile division of the pay television operator DStv, has recently announced the pending launch of the iDrifta, a mobile DBV-H receiver that will allow users to view DStv Mobile offerings on their iPads, iPhones and iPods. The lightweight, portable plug-and-play receiver is compact and compatible with fourth generation iPod, iPhone 4 and 4S, as well as iPad 1, 2 and 3. According to MultiChoice, the device will have a battery life of up to 3.5 hours. All three of DStv Mobile’s existing channel bouquets will be available to iDrifta users. These bouquets are the free-to-view e.mobile, which consists of eNews, SuperSport Blitz, CNNi, Channel O, and BigBrother StarGame; DStv Mobile, which is available for a subscription fee of R49 per month and includes all the channels in the e.mobile package, along with SuperSport 1,2,3,4, AfricaMagic, Sony Max, Discovery, Cartoon Network, and M-Net Series Mobile. Those who already subscribe to DStv Premium can buy the iDrifta and watch DStv Mobile for free. They also get M-Net Mobile, an additional channel available exclusively to them. DStv Mobile’s coverage area includes all nine of South Africa’s major cities. These are Durban, Pretoria, Johannesburg, Cape Town, Port Elizabeth, Polokwane, Rustenburg, Bloemfontein and Mbombela. The iDrifta will be available from MultiChoice, select retailers and online stores from next Monday, June 11, for a recommended retail price of R499. Those who do not have Apple devices can access DStv Mobile via other portable receivers and players including the Walka Handheld TV, the Drifta USB and DStv Drifta. The iDrifta will not work on Mac OS X powered devices, but Mac users can watch DStv Mobile using the DStv Drifta and Drifta USB devices. Comments (0)
