FNB adds eWallet to Banking App PDF Print E-mail

First National Bank (FNB) customers who make use of the bank’s popular app will now be able to immediately send money to anyone with a valid cellphone number in South Africa.

This is due to an eWallet functionality being added to the bank's app which will now enable users to send money to an eWallet straight from the FNB App. The recipient of the money will be notified that money has been sent to their cellphone. They will then be able to make an immediate ATM cash withdrawal, send money to another South African cellphone, make purchases at select retailers, get cash at select retailers, make payments, or buy prepaid airtime and electricity.

"We are continually looking for ways to add even more value to the FNB Banking App," says Giuseppe Virgillito, Product Owner for the FNB Banking App.

"For premier banking clients, the new product features make it even more simple and convenient for our clients to stay in touch with the bank. Better yet, the calls and messages between clients and the bank are free."

"This not only helps our clients save money, but also fulfills a need of instant gratification, as clients can now easily identify their premier banker as well as make instant contact with them. Allowing clients to send money on the App compliments our multi-channel strategy. This popular means of payment provides even more value to our existing app clients."

Apart from being given access to the eWallet, App customers will now also be able to use the App to identify and call or send a message to their Premier Banker free of charge.
