Samsung SA has doubled its warranty on all consumer electronics from a period of 12 months to 24 months.
The extended warranty applies to any products purchased from Samsung's retail partners within SA and Africa as of 1 May. The warranty will be valid from the date of purchase and will require a valid proof of purchase. According to Samsung SA, the increased warranty will cover labour and parts.
Samsung SA MD, Deon Liebenberg, says: “As a leading consumer electronics brand locally, we are well aware of the need for consumers to have access to the very best service level agreements and this extended factory warranty ensures we are able to continue to do just this – ensuring comprehensive service assistance in case of incidental product failure.”
Samsung advised customers to register any Samsung product online to ensure warranty claims are easily managed.
Liebenberg says while a 12-month warranty is the industry standard, “our 24-month limited warranty positions our brand offering ahead of our competitors in both South Africa and Africa alike”.
Samsung SA also recently announced the availability of the Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) update for all Galaxy SII users. According to the company, since the Thursday release, “uptake has been astounding”.
“Given the high demand, users may struggle to upgrade immediately due to the limited capacity on the FOTA servers, but we urge Galaxy S II users to keep trying,” says Samsung SA's director of mobile communications, Craige Fleischer.
“We also encourage users to upgrade via Kies, as not only is it easy and simple, but as it is done via the PC, it has unlimited server capacity and as such, during this initial period of high demand is the preferred download method.”
