|Review: FNB Banking App|
Wednesday, 16 May 2012 11:00
The FNB banking app has completely changed the way I do banking.
Previously, I used to pay my accounts the 'old-fashioned' way of logging into Internet banking from a laptop. Now, I'm paying accounts before getting out bed and brushing my teeth.
The app is available for iOS, BlackBerry OS, Android and Symbian. I currently use the app on my iPhone 4.
Once you launch the app, you will be greeted with a clean interface that is self explanatory.
Before typing in your password to proceed, you will have access to other services: you can make phone calls and send messages with FNB Connect (you receive R10 credit upon registration); check forex rates; locate an ATM or branch; and access Geo Payments (launched recently).
After logging in, the range of services available to you is displayed at the bottom of the screen, which you can access by swiping across. The following tabs are available: accounts; transfers; payments; prepaid; messages; services; and logoff.
The Accounts tab displays a summary of all accounts you have linked to your banking profile. Each account displays a remaining balance and amount available to you. When you select an account, apart from making payment, you can view a detailed balance or transaction history.
The Transfers tab lets you easily move money between accounts. This is especially handy for me when I have the cash to buy something but opt to pay with my credit card to earn eBucks. I do a transfer within seconds, sometimes while inside the store.
The Payments tab is where all your recipients are listed. It displays by account most recently used (this month; last month; and older). You can also view more information like payment history, add to favourites and view recipient details.
On of my favourite and most used tabs is Prepaid. You can purchase airtime, data and SMS bundles for Vodacom, MTN, Cell C, 8ta and Virgin Mobile. As a prepaid Vodacom customer, I find it easier to top up my account from this interface, rather than using the USSD menu, which gets tedious. If you use FNB Connect as your ISP, you can also top up ADSL and 3G data.
The FNB banking app allows you to do your banking safely and conveniently from the palm of your hand, at any time of day (or night). If your phone gets stolen, your account cannot be accessed without a password. The app was recently updated (v 1.5.0) to include GeoPayments on 7 May 2012. iTunes download link.
