Fans of South African rock band The Parlotones will now be able to tote the band around in a smart, 21st Century way.
To coincide with the release of their new album, “Journey Through the Shadows”, on May 8, 2012, the band has decided to reward fans by releasing a free smartphone app and a game. The custom app, which is currently ready for iPhone and Android handsets, is available to download for free on the band’s website (www.theparlotones.net), as well as on iTunes and the Android Market. An edition for BlackBerry will launch in May.
According to a statement on band’s website, the smartphone app is “an extension of the band’s roll-out of their fan loyalty program and forms the mobile aspect of the system.”
The rest of this multi-platform fan management system consists of the band’s newly revamped website and a physical passport which can be obtained at concerts and online. Via the system, fans will be able to interact with the band and with each other. Along the way, they will be able to earn points which can be converted into exclusive content, tickets and merchandise.
The app, which is fully integrated with Facebook, Twitter and Foursquare, will provide users with access to exclusive promotions as well as to the band’s latest videos, a gig guide, a QR reader, news feed, a fan wall where they can interact with other fans and a discography.
Apart from the app, fans of The Parlotones who enjoy a bit of game play and social interaction will be able to join in the trackable passport game. One thousand Parlotones passports containing specially designed visas, each with a unique QR code inside, have been released by the band. Using The Parlotones’ smartphone app or any QR code reader, players have to scan in the code. This will unlock an exclusive download and allow the player to pass the passport to a friend, who then automatically becomes part of that player’s team. Each time the passport is scanned, the fans will earn points that they will be able to redeem for real goodies at the end of the campaign, as well as for a chance to win spot prizes along the way. The objective of the game is to get the passport to travel around the world with as many other fans as possible.
The one thousand passports will be issued worldwide to the first one thousand fans who register for the game on the group’s website. As an added bonus, these fans will also receive their own personalised Parlotones Passport.
Those who preorder the new album from South African music stores Musica and Look & Listen between April 15 and April 27 will be rewarded with exclusive tracks that have not been included on the album.
