Sound off with TweetVox PDF Print E-mail

A new microblogging site is allowing users to give voice to their tweets and Facebook status updates.

The site and app, called TweetVox, can basically be described as Twitter with sound. Since it is so similar in concept to the microblogging giant, TweetVox has already been nicknamed “Witter” by some. Whereas Twitter allows users to express themselves in 140 characters of text, TweetVox lets users record 120 seconds of sound. You can leave your sound bytes right there on your own TweetVox profile, or upload it to your Twitter and Facebook accounts.

“TweetVox puts the voice at the heart of the social network,” says Guillaume Odriosolo, director of the TweetVox project. “We’ve seen how people like to exchange ideas on Facebook and Twitter. We have also found a growing demand for audio files. TweetVox combines the two. It puts back the human element into microblogging, because the voice gives warmth and emotion.”

For now, only those in London and Paris where the service was recently launched, will be able to regale their friends and followers with their TweetVox sound bytes. However, future launches are already pending for Japan and Spain. It is also available as an app for iPhone users and for those with Android handsets.

With the mobile app, users can make their TweetVox updates location specific, which, according to Odriosolo, will allow users to write about the places they go. “It gives a voice to a place. Before going into a museum, you can listen to the audio reviews left by other visitors,” he says. “Or you could listen to a professional audio guide via the app. We’re sure that TweetVox’s users will appreciate its simplicity, and the added value it will give to their day-to-day usage of social networks.”
