MTN debuts new Blackberrys PDF Print E-mail

MTN and BlackBerry maker Research In Motion (RIM) have launched two new BlackBerry smartphones in SA.

As of yesterday, the Bold 9790 and Curve 9380, both running the BlackBerry 7 operating system, are available at MTN stores in SA.

The Bold 9790 features a touch display, as well as the standard qwerty keyboard and optical trackpad. The handset also has a 1GHz processor and 8GB onboard memory, extendable to 32GB with a memory card. The Bold 9790 is available at approximately R249 per month on an MTN 200 contract. It is available to MTN corporate customers, as well as on MTN contracts from various independent cellular service providers.

The Curve 9380 is the first of the Curve range to be all-touch. With a 3.2-inch display, the handset also has a 5MP camera with built-in flash. The Curve 9380 is available from between R2 799 and R2 999 on MTN PayAsYouGo.
Mike Fairon, GM for product services and innovation at MTN SA, says the operator is “excited” to expand its BlackBerry 7 portfolio with the new smarthpones. Director of product management for Africa at RIM, Rui Brites, says the phones enhance the user experience with features like near-field communications and support for augmented reality.
The handsets were initially launched in SA in February through Vodacom and, last week, were introduced into Cell C stores.
