A new live auction website claims that it provides users with a fast, efficient, entertaining and secure way to get their hands on top of the range electronics and other goodies for a fraction of the retail price.
The new site, called Bid on Me, is similar to a penny auction site. It allows consumers to register for free and then buy a bid package and start placing bids on live auctions. (Customers have to be South African residents currently living in South Africa.
The Bid on Me website states that the price of most of the products on auction – which includes an array of items ranging from gadgets, to big ticket items like cars, boats and bikes – stars at zero. For every bid placed on an item that is on auction, the price of the item will increase by 1c and ten seconds will be added to the remaining time on the timer. The last person to place a bid when the timer runs out; wins the auction.
According to information on the Bid on Me website, newly registered shoppers will receive five free bids to start off with. After that, it will cost R5 per bid. Every time a shopper places a bid, a credit will be deducted from his/her account.
Some of the recently sold items on the site includes a white, 64 GB Apple iPad 2 with WiFi and 3G, which sold for all of R11.37; a Nokia Lumia 800, which was snapped up for R8.31, and a 46-inch, full HD LCD Samsung television which went for a ridiculous R9.35.
Those who do not have time to stay glued to the computer to watch an auction play out in order to make sure that no one outbids them, can make use of one or more Bid-Buddy. Once you activate a Bid-Buddy, you need to enter a starting amount (which has to be at least one cent higher than the item’s value at that time), as well as the amount of bids that you want to use on the item.
To protect a user’s privacy and keep shopping secure, users will automatically be logged off the site after 15 minutes of inactivity.
A mobile version of the site is currently in the works and will be coming soon for those who would like to shop the auction from their mobile devices, but Bid on Me warns that auction timers on those devices may experience a slight delay.
