Kodak’s credit card-sized Playfull waterproof video camera has arrived, just in time to capture all your playfulness this upcoming summer holiday. This mini-camcorder and stills camera-in-one is no larger than a smartphone, with modest measurements of 5.5 by 9.3 centimetres and 1.2 centimetres thick and weight of just 85 grams, making it super portable and easy to slip into your pocket or beach/poolside tote bag. It will be the perfect beach bum companion too, since it is waterproof for depths of up to three metres, making it more than capable of capturing some of your underwater action too. The Playfull is also making a splash on dry land, and has just earned manufacturer Eastman Kodak Company one of three CES Innovations 2012 Design and Engineering Awards. These awards are handed out by the Consumer Electronics Association – the same body responsible for producing the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) each year – to honour outstanding design and engineering in innovative consumer electronics products. And despite its diminutive stature, this tiny cam does indeed pack a punch, with the ability to shoot 720p HD video and 5 MP stills. It can take quite a punch too and is apparently rugged enough to withstand 5ft drops. If users aren’t happy with the results of their video or stills, the Playfull offers easy, on-camera editing, allowing users to tweak shots. For the social networking butterflies among you who like to show off all your carefully edited holiday snaps online, Kodak claims that it is one of the only video cameras in the world that allows users to share whatever video or pictures they’ve taken to their favourite social networking or photo sharing websites or even via e-mail, all in three easy steps: by pressing the Share button, popping out the camera’s built-in USB arm and connecting it to your desktop or notebook. There will be plenty to share. The Playfull can record up to 10 hours of HD video (up to 2 hours under water), and an expandable SD/SDHC card slot allows it to hold up to 32 GB of images and footage. At R2 311 (from local online retailer WantItAll), this Playfull is certainly not a cheap toy, but it might be worth it to some to splash out and splurge in exchange to make those summer memories everlasting.
